One of the reasons for that structure is that gate receipts are still a major component of revenue. You have to keep fans in many cities interested and thinking they have a chance. Once you reach EPL status and TV revenue far outweighs gate receipts, then the emphasis is on putting on a good show for viewers and kit buyers, and supporters are an afterthought.
Our city counsel can't decide if it wants to even bid to host games for World Cup. Missed one deadline already and asking for more time to consider. Hard to not have contempt for these lame brains
As the elected member of a townhome community's board and a politically aware citizen (at the state level), it's been my observation that the electorate as a whole get the government they deserve given extensive latitude for election rules. Note #1: I don't follow city and school politics so I am as guilty as almost everyone else for contributing to the problem. Note #2: Based upon my board experience, it's often hard to get things done even when the board agrees they want to do "X" and have the funds to pay for it.

Messi scores his 99th and 100th goal in Champions League by nutmegging Courtois. The 2nd time is particularly insane.
Champions League has been spectacular this year. The quarters don't look really exciting, but I'm expecting killer semi's!
It's probably some secret rule that Messi's goals only count if they go through the legs of the keeper.
I agree with you for Liverpool, Roma and Sevilla. Possibly even City. On the other hand, Juve, Real Madrid, FCB, and Bayren are definitely the usual suspects.
Wow what a night of European football. Liverpool hold off the Man City blitz. Roma is the team that pulls the upset and comes back to defeat Barcelona.
Didn't expect Barcelona to crumble in Rome. Incredible. Here's the audio from the Rome broadcast: 983846263664906241 is not a valid tweet id
Sorry I missed that game. Read about it and it seemed to fit right in with the current run of "omg, did you see that?!!" games, (3 goal deficits getting wiped out left and right in MLS and Champions league, women's ncaa bb semi's and championship being won on time expiring 3 pointers, last nights Minn Timberwolves vs Suns battle back & forth through overtime to win the last NBA playoff spot......)
Just watched Liverpool dismantle Roma. They looked pretty good. Liverpool could probably hang with Atlanta United.
But is a 3 goal lead safe going back to Rome? Wasn't enough for Barcelona--but I think Liverpool will get it done.
