and GO! Many have asked/pondered about a thread like this. Well, here it is. Most recently inspired by MPNumber9's post about the passing of int'l Legend Johan Cruyff http://edition.cnn.com/2016/03/24/football/football-johan-cruyff-death/index.html
Cruyff was the man that Klinsmann imagines himself to be: http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/03/24/armchair-analyst-explaining-legacy-johan-cruyff
Yeah, I should've quoted it. Several other people have mentioned in the MLS thread while posting about players/clubs in other leagues that they weren't sure which thread to post in. Thus, this thread for news/rumors/discussion of football outside of MLS.
I wasn't a keeper, but this is a great poem (by Buffon) about a keeper's job: 711923731594084354 is not a valid tweet id
My hometown club (Gt Yarmouth Town) are looking good for promotion. I think Wivenhoe are taking the title though. http://thurlownunnleague.co.uk/league-tables/
Only a few more levels and The Bloaters could be taking on the Galaxy in the International Champions Cup in a few years.
I knew Cruyiff played in the NASL, but didn't know he was an Aztec. Pretty amazing. Soccer world mourns the loss of former Los Angeles Aztecs and Dutch great Johan Cruyff: https://t.co/FNKmoSqUL8 pic.twitter.com/QCQHhW1dd7— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) March 24, 2016
Yes. We were formerly a major herring fishing port. Also a base for when Britain beat the Spanish Amada, hence half the three lions on the town crest.
And people make fun of American team nicknames. Oh look - the Hoosiers and Tar Heels are about to tip off!

Matt Miazga got his first start for Chelsea today. How he does in the PL is important for MLS. I always maintained the perception of the league will start to change based on the quality we produce and send overseas. That will shift the label of MLS being a place where players go to retire to being the place where good players come from. That would help the league a lot, especially with getting young talent that typically would go to Europe.
He wasn't tested much (at all in the 1st half) but he looked pretty good. Very calm and precise with the ball except for the one corner he gave up.
Did I really get up early to watch Leicester this AM? Not just a great story but a fun team to watch. I think they might just pull this off!
Real Madrid win their first Clasico in 40 matches. CR7 scores in the final minutes to give 10-men Madrid the win http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...adrid-score-and-reaction-from-el-clasico-2016
I watched the game on cable TV. The entire RM counterattack was great. Rodríguez's pass to Bale, Bale/s lofted chip/cross and CR7's settling of the ball and nutmeg of the Barca keeper were all quality.
Concur. If any of those types of plays happens in MLS (however rare), we'd see posts about the crappy defending.
I feel like every time a highlight is posted from Europe is posted someone says if that was in MLS they'd be complaining about the defending, or something similar. So what's the difference? We're still focusing on the flawed defending. .... Seriously a rhetorical question, I just find it funny.
Well, there is this. I don't know any US domestic soccer fan who makes it a practice to denigrate the quality of European football. We actually appreciate it for what it is. On the other hand, at least on social media and maybe elsewhere, there are a number of European fans (note, I eschewed the pejorative "Eurosnob") who delight in denigrating our domestic league. So, it is not surprising that this kind of response is generated.
I see it go both ways, for exactly the reason you mentioned because those fans do exist. Over in MLS N&A fans feel compelled to poke holes in the quality of European football as a response, but I'm more the type that would say just let them be petty. Maybe I'm just numb to the critique, supporting English and Italian football for most of my life mentality is typical because of how football is structured. I remember a time when Italian fans would ridicule English football as being unintelligent and outdated. You see English fans ridiculing Italian football today as slow, boring and too tactical. Everyone will take shots at their lower domestic leagues, adjacent leagues, semi-pro, etc. That idea of accepting the quality for "what it is" at times can be nonexistent, especially with younger fans.
