30?!?! Is that some kind of sick JOKE? Is this policy to (a) discourage anybody from every giving out rep or (b) to try to get people to mingle in new threads to find new people to rep or what? Well at least nobody will be abusing rep and stuff. I guess I should be proud of my measly little 14 points considering my small circle of acquaintance on these boards.
I'd swear I've had a few reps worth two points rather than one. I'd be nice to know for sure. The old system, where some people's rep was worth 75 points or so was absurd. Nice to receive, but ultimately stupid.
Six per day: fine and dandy. 30? I don't even know 10 people were spreading rep to. I've been spreading the rep around to all kinds of unworthy posts just so I can rep the one or two posters in our subforum that really deserve it! I suppose the only real solution would be to stop worrying about rep at all and enjoy the discussions. Novel concept.
Now that rep is invisible to everyone but the person receiving rep, I'm assuming it has simply become a way to point out to one specific person that you appreciated their post. That being the case, why are there any limits on who and how you can rep anyone at all? If I want to let person A know that I like many of their posts and no one but person A will ever see it, why should I have to rep person B, C, D, E, F, and G before I can let person A know that their posts are appreciated? Maybe I'm just missing the point of rep since it became invisible to everyone but the person being repped. What exactly is rep for now anyway?
Didn't know that. But still you have to go looking for it. I'm still wondering what the purpose of rep is now though.
I see the new fangled changes ain't made much difference to the rep leader board personally i can't understand the point of periodically wiping it, because that most disadvantages those who actually collect it over time, like it was designed for.....
I agree. I also dont like that the postcounts are no longer under your username either. I think it does save Huss bandwidth or severspace or both or something tho by not having those two things on every single post. Is that the case Huss? Is that why it was gotten rid of? Just curious.
i agree re post counts, because it's kind of part of the online personality of the poster - how much have they posted? and how quickly?
The idea was that by not displaying post count people would actually have to read what the poster had written before casting dispersions. In other words, if you don't know they are a newbie than you won't dismiss their thoughts without reading the post. And vice versa, just b/c they have 10,000 posts doesn't mean they know what they are talking about.
Can we make a rule/announcement telling people not to post about rep in news threads? E.g., every time someone neg reps superdave he tells everyone about it. And the endless announcements from people asking for/talking about too much rep, not soon enough, etc. is pretty childish.
