"FEATURE: Ian Russell looks back on Reno 1868's inaugural season" (SJEarthquakes.com - Wednesday, 11/15/17) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Reno 1868 FC's Chris Wehan named USL Rookie of the Year Wehan is 23 and had 8 goals 12 assists for Reno. He should probably be offered a contract by the Quakes, at the very least he should definitely be invited in for preseason.
Kind of interesting that he way out-performed Jackson Yueill at Reno (0g, 0a in 6 starts), though Jackson didn't play many games with them and was, for some reason, mostly played wide. Also, Reno didn't really get going as a team until after Jackson left the team more or less, though OTOH he was part of the team that wasn't really "getting it going". I'm not going to try to make a case that Wehan is better than Jackson, because Jackson just kind of got his feet wet there (6 starts to Wehan's 29), and also Reno to MLS performance is not always linear. But it is interesting nonetheless, to me anyway.
That's the whole point of having a USL team - develop players and bring them up. At the very least those two, Mfeka and probably others have earned time in the preseason camp to win a spot.
I think Mfeka probably needs another year of seasoning in Reno, but yeah sure bring him in for camp as well...
Yeah, I'm not saying any of them have earned a Quakes roster spot. Only the right to earn one in preseason.
Lindo Mfeka signed by Reno 1868 FC So Lindo is still in the Quakes family. Hopefully he has another good season in Reno and then gets a look with the first team. Go Quakes!! Go Reno!! - Mark
"NEWS: Earthquakes Sign Three Players from Reno 1868 FC" (SJEarthquakes.com - Thursday, 12/14/17) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
This is a minor thing but it's cool to see. I can't imagine a video from our GM to the fans of a lower division team under the Doyle/Kinnear regime. Hell the Quakes pretty much ignored the Sacramento Republic affiliation for the most part. We're basically "calling up" some of Reno's best players, it's a good idea to thank them.
History was made today as @Reno1868FC's Jimmy Ockford, Chris Wehan, and Luis Felipe became the first players from Reno to sign MLS deals with the @SJEarthquakes.https://t.co/LpxYaBcEcZ pic.twitter.com/zOTJwSbrse— Pete Francis (@Pete_Francis) December 15, 2017 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
It is nice to sign some guys from Reno, but what about, um, the Golden Boot winner, and, I think, league MVP, and USL all-time goal scorer? He can't get a look?
I remember hearing that Dane Kelly accepted a much better financial offer to play in India after the season ended. I don't think the Quakes or Reno could do better than what he got.
