If you are implying that he's somehow unmotivated or unhappy with his contract you are wrong. My sources are good on this one.
I don't think so at all. Colvey controls his own future. Lima grabbed his place and Colvey could as well, but he needs to play better than sort of okay. That's not on Dom, it's on Kip himself. Everyone should watch the Reno matches--he hasn't looked better than Francis.
JazzyJ says he watched the Reno matches, and he seems to think Colvey should be starting over Francis. And I don't buy the notion that young players control their own destiny on the Quakes. Colvey was playing well for the Quakes a year ago when he grabbed his place. Then he was, unfairly in my view and that of others, placed in Kinnear's dog house following a game in Portland, from which he has yet to emerge. Colvey's not the first young player to get in Kinnear's dog house. Lima could find himself there, too (and probably would if Wynne were healthy). So might Jackson Yuell, if he hasn't been banished there already.
IMO Colvey is playing better than Francis. Maybe he isn't quite as fast or athletic, but he is just more assured in possession and can actually cross the ball. And his defense is fine. As Don says, we've seen him play with the 1st team, and he was already better than Francis. So what is Dom so afraid of? The young player boogie man is going to come get him again?
Colvey was missing in action on the first two goals with Reno. Both were on his side and he was nowhere to be found marking the players scoring. Bersano was hung out to dry by the defense on almost every goal. Reno, and the players loaned from the first team, need to be better. On the header goal from the corner kick, no Reno player reacted at all. Horrible defending! It has got to get better. Passing has to get better. It should as the games and competition continue, but the first teamers have to shine to get past USL label. IMHO, Colvey and Silva were nowhere as good as they should be, considering the amount of time they have been playing.
CDL to the rescue! I don't see how you can say that the 1st two goals were "on Colvey's side" or to assign him blame. On the 2nd goal, Silva came out almost to the middle 3rd of the field and hit a medium-long pass into the midfield, which comically boinked off of a Real Monarchs player and ricocheted like all the way through the back line or nearly. It was like a golf tee shot that hits the tees and bounces ignominiously back behind you. Then the Real Monarchs guy was pretty much through on goal right down the middle. That was pretty much all on Silva. I don't know how Colvey could have possibly helped. The breakdown on the 1st goal was on the opposite side of Colvey. The guy got through on Reno's left side and rounded the keeper. At that point Silva is beaten again, and the other CB needs to be in position to cut off that passing lane and he didn't do it. Also a d-mid need to track the Real Monarchs mid, Minter, who made the central run and scored. Colvey came into the picture late, but he would have had to have somehow gotten on the opposite side of the runner coming in from central midfield and leave the far post open. Almost no chance. I agree that Silva was poor. But Colvey was fine. The attacks tended to come from the other side of Colvey or central, and he was good when pressing on offense in the 2nd half. Watch his passing and decision-making. He rarely causes a turnover. He may seem unspectacular at times, but he is solid.

In case you missed it on Saturday, this was a BIG deal. http://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/789725?referrer_id=2333971 First win (good to get that out of the way, finally), First shut out, & First time seeing Mfeka play. Now, they need to bring it home and do it in front of the Reno fans.
Nice! I think the team is better than their results before Saturday. Now hopefully they can keep it going. BTW, what happened to Silva. Don't even see him in the 18.

Perhaps not the right thread, but..... Seattle is going to build a 5,000 seat soccer specific stadium for their USL-side in Tacoma, to be operated by the Tacoma Rainiers minor league baseball team, and to be built at their stadium site in Tacoma. https://www.soundersfc.com/post/201...s-agree-memorandum-understanding-build-soccer “We are absolutely thrilled to be moving forward with the Tacoma Rainiers and City of Tacoma, progressing toward construction of a soccer-specific stadium,” said Sounders FC Owner Adrian Hanauer. “Our vision of having players begin their time with the club playing at Starfire with the Academy, then move up to the USL team with matches in Tacoma, before finally getting the call-up to the First Team at CenturyLink Field – all while playing within the Puget Sound region – really reinforces our commitment to bringing quality soccer to the communities of Western Washington.”
Mfeka played pretty well in that match. He's a good passer. Colvey had a pretty good match as well. He got forward a fair bit.
It's been a good few weeks for the Quakes organization... -Vako signed as a DP -beating RSL 2-1 -Kinnear finally gone -beating Seattle in USOC -beating LA 2-1 in the Cali Clasico on a stoppage time goal -USL affiliate Reno beats LAG2 by a record score of 9-0 https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1457838884298607 Reno Sets Record in Rout of Galaxy II
If Dane Kelly might be worth taking a look at, same goes for Chris Wehan, who had 2 goals 2 assists, and is in his first pro season at age 23... From the recap: While Kelly and Antoine Hoppenot – who took over penalty duties from Kelly to good effect on the night – were known commodities coming into the season, Chris Wehan has emerged as the breakout attraction for 1868 FC attack. Undrafted coming out of the University of New Mexico, Wehan now sits tied for the USL lead with seven assists this season as his smart runs and ability to provide the right ball at the right time has paid off handsomely. At the halfway point of the season, the former Sounders FC U23 player has put himself firmly into the frame for the USL Rookie of the Year award. Reno is all over the leaderboards for player stats and team stats...
They are currently 4th in the Western conference and 7th overall out of 30 teams. Not to shabby for a brand new club. Yallop at Phoenix could never get that team this high even with an established club (and probably higher budget)
