friendship ended with Sacramento, now Reno is my best friend Now that the often-uncomfortable relationship between the Quakes and Sacramento Republic FC is over, we should probably have a thread for Reno 1868... http://www.reno1868fc.com/ Twitter Facebook Wikipedia game schedule Notable preseason friendlies: Sat February 18 12:30pm Reno 1868 FC vs San Jose Earthquakes (inaugural friendly) Greater Nevada Field, Reno NV Sat March 11 4:00pm Reno 1868 FC vs Sacramento Republic FC Greater Nevada Field, Reno NV preseason roster: The only really notable name for me is Boxi Yomba who has played for US youth national teams and used to be with Atletico Madrid... They will be playing at Greater Nevada Field, so soccer in a minor league baseball stadium, here's a photo. Unlike the Sacramento Republic, Reno 1868 doesn't have their own forum on BigSoccer yet, just a single thread in the USL Expansion section... It's kind of an interesting dynamic that, should they join MLS, Sacramento will go from being the local rival or Reno to the local rival of San Jose... This might be the first time the owner of a lower division affiliate (Herbert Simon: $2.9 billion) is worth more than the owner of the major league team (John Fischer: $2.4 billion)...
Yes, every single USL game is streamed live on Youtube, the links should appear on the USL site as the games are starting, or you can subscribe to their Youtube page... http://www.uslsoccer.com/ https://www.youtube.com/uslsoccer
Thanks, I'll do that. It seems like they're putting a good squad together. But the total number of signings is still pretty low.
The USL season doesn't start until the last week of March, so they still have plenty of time. Last year Rio Grande Valley FC (whose affiliate agreement with the Dynamo is pretty much what the Reno-Quakes affiliation is modeled after) didn't get their players until quite late... It will be interesting to see how many players from the Quakes are sent up there, and which ones...
True, we could easily see a squad of trialists for the preseason game and not get much of a feel for who the squad really will be. I suspect part of it will be waiting for players in camps with MLS teams to get released.
I don't about the stadium, but nice to see a Frogs logo! I have a black Frogs t-shirt - one of my favorites, and lasts - good material. On another topic, skiing will probably go into May this year at least. Could ski by day, watch Reno soccer at night.
They own the stadium, so it is their stadium. The guys who own the Reno Aces also own Reno 1868 FC. (Unwieldy name that!) So there is no need for them to build a new stadium, unless the soccer team starts out drawing the baseball team. I've never been in the stadium, but it's right downtown. The location is great, you might even call it aces. <hangs head in shame> I hope to get down there for a game this season. I like Reno a lot. Go 1868! - Mark
I believe so, the quakes don't own the team just supply players. It's teams like T2 or S2 that can't compete in open cup because they are owned and run by the timers and Sounders
It's true that the Aces own 1868, however, we have a big hand in the pie. Chris Leitch did a lot of the set up work for them, he picked Ian Russell to be their head coach. I expect us to loan them several player. We aren't on the hook for any of their financial issues, but I wouldn't be surprised if we are subsidizing them in some way. Go Reno!!
I haven't been to Reno in years and I'm not all that familiar with it, but the stadium looks to be right near downtown, by the river, just blocks from the Reno arch and all the hotels and casinos...
If Reno 1868 want to sell some tickets, they should sign Freddy Adu, who is no longer on trial with Portland... he's pretty much crap now but at least it's a relatively well known name... http://www.oregonlive.com/timbers/index.ssf/2017/02/freddy_adu_no_longer_on_trial.html
Steven Beitashour's Frogs kit is in the Soccer Legacy Collection at History San Jose. A few other Frogs items, as well.
Sweet I have always wondered if there was a frogs item there. Anyone know if the deltas added the frogs to there list of bay area soccer teams list. I emailed them and told them they forgot to add them
Nice. I saw Beita score a ridiculous goal for the Frogs one day - probably the only goal he scored for them. Don't think he played for them a lot. But it was some crazy volley from like 25 yards out at a ridiculous angle. I would say it rivaled Quincy's strike last season in terms of degree of difficulty.
Well I doubt the Quakes are sending any players to Reno on a long term loan, now that MLS rosters have gone from 28 to 31 it's likely that all the players will be on the Quakes roster with a few that aren't making the 18 being loaned to Reno every few weeks... MLS will allow teams to have up to 31 players on their payrolls this year, thanks to new slots for homegrowns: https://t.co/dFl14I2wyC— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) February 8, 2017 Maybe one goes straight to Reno, possibly Thierjung or Schidler...

I love how I can watch any USL game I want on a platform like YouTube, yet I can't watch a single A's game online without a cable package because screw you, customer, that's why!
