6 finalists: Reno FC, FC Reno, Reno Silver FC, Reno City FC, Reno United, Reno 1868.I'm going with Reno United. https://t.co/DaKUqYTe6x— Ben Ross (@BenRossTweets) January 18, 2016 Facepalm...
You should both accept the fact that if it's not 1868, then it's going to be United. And having supported DC United for a long time, I've debunked the "United is only for two or more teams joined together" nonsense too many times already. It's seriously not true. I once went through every United (and Eintracht) I could find. Out of all of them I think I only found a few so named because a couple clubs joined together. Manchester was not one of them.
689228509705719808 is not a valid tweet id That's cute, but I think these guys would object ... legally. http://www.renoenvy.com/
I'm not opposed to the name for the "two clubs united" reason, which as you said isn't really true. It's just so overused by so many teams, so unimaginative at this point, reeks of trying to create legitimacy out of thin air, but just looks like it was decided in a board room by people who aren't really familiar with the sport at this point.
Local news covered the announcement finally http://www.kolotv.com/content/sports/USL-Reno-Announces-Team-Name-Finalists-365694821.html I'm prepared for the "lulz soccer f*gs" comments that are sure to pop up on their comment section.
Cool, someone felt the need to spell it out to people. They didn't note Silver as a bad option, so I take that as cursory approval
Well, were I involved as a poster on social media other BigSoccer, I'd pass it along. Hope it makes an appearance on the Reno supporters club Facebook page and various other places I never visit.
Ah, figures. I'd also be willing to put in on Yik Yak around the university but I feel that platform has too many trolls.
You can too: https://renoaces.formstack.com/forms/uslreno2017 But you'll need to provide a little personal information. Which may prove troublesome for some of you BigSoccer posters who are hiding out from The Man.
I just posted this on the supporters FB page. This is not a proposed design, just several concepts smashed together to get some ideas.
Silver is best. 1868 is second of those choices, but it's disingenuous in implying that the club already has a century-and-a-half of history.
This is silly. Nobody has that idea. Reno 1868 is a variation on a German (or predominantly German) naming convention. So what if it honors the founding of the city instead of the founding of the club? That's OK. Really, some of you guys are way too invested in European assumptions. By the way, you might be surprised to learn that nobody thinks the 49ers are comprised of old gold miners, or that the 76ers signed the Declaration of Independence.
But you just explained why it's not the same tradition as seen in Germany. If they were the 68ers, that would be different, playing on an actual naming precedent in this country.
