I've been bothered by this for quite a while now: Will we ever see another Rene Higuita player? The type who risked as a goal keeper and rewrote how goal keepers can play? Looking back in the history of 'unique' players, Rene Higuita was really on the top of the list considering of the amazing things he did (Like the scorpion kick) although he's had made mistakes causing goals for the other teams a few times earning him 'el loco' the risk taker master of surprise. Whenever I play with friends, I am a goal keeper and I love to act like Rene considering that I watched enough of his games to understand how his style and it makes me sad that there's not another goal keeper like him. Do you think that Colombia needs another 'El Locol'?
No ...... we are too defensive of a team to be pulling shit like that. Only time it would be ok is if we were up like 3-0+ and the goalie goofed off a bit but the point of the goalie is to keep a clean sheet. He can have 50 saves in 1 game but they lose 1-0 and people are going to be pissed at him. Higuita was cool and all but I prefer we have another Mondragon or Cordoba any day of the week than another Higuita.
When Higuita wasn't fooling around he was a RIDICULOUS shot stopper too, amazing at covering pens and his confidence was contagious. What we most need now is a keeper that will inspire confidence in that backline. Ospina is good, but he still looks erratic sometimes...

His crazy shit that he pulled did a lot in a game and made it more interesting. However, I must admit, he did cost us a few important games like that game vs Cameroon in the world cup back in 1998. Regardless, a talented goal keeper he was and a good one at that.
The mistake vs. Cameroon was at 1990...And Higuita was amazing goalkeeper, but I do prefer another Mondragon or Cordoba like Crzd said, and I think Ospina can amd will be the closest thing to one of them.

I think the key word he is, Charisma. The team we have lacks Charisma, Higuita brought Charisma to this team. Ospina is confident and good but lacks Charisma. Too think about it, we don't have one player that has that kind of Charisma like Higuita, who I think potentially has it is Pablo Armero but thats another story.
