The Battery shellacked the NY/NJ Metrostars in the 2001 USOC and GK Tim Howard dug the ball out of his net 4 times that night at Blackbaud!! Another great memory. That Metrostars team had a few other notable players....Petke & Ramos to name a couple. Clint Mathis (when did you hear his name last?) was on the team but injured and did not play. Just another World Cup related moment......

Even found a quasi-match report (but no lineups).

For extra credit, can you name the other US National Team/World Cup GK who also lost to Charleston playing on his club team? Hint: it didn't happen at Blackbaud Stadium

Mikey mouse and Sam U El repped this.

Tony Meola playing for the Long Island Roughriders, winning goal was nice little cut back, that made Meola look poor by Billy Lesesne

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! And Mr. O gets double extra credit for remembering the winning goal. Except he may have to recuse himself since it was a family member. Is Billy your brother?

What I do remember was Meola being a massive dick after the match when he got a little taunting from the meager Stoney Field crowd.
