Shoffner’s Borussia Neunkirchen had a postponed game scheduled for this weekend, but it was cancelled again. So, next weekend the league action starts, some developments over the winter:

    NORTH

Joe Enochs was third in the vote for the VfL Player of the Year 2002 vote and lost the title of the year 2001. Much more important are the financial problems of VfL Osnabrück. The November salary was paid in January, the December salary in February and yet the players are still waiting for the January income. Their budget of currently 3.75 M would be increased to 5 M in case of promotion, otherwise they’ll have to cut it to 3 to 3.5 M – this would affect Enochs as well as his contract expires and they might get problems to keep him. The GM btw. blames the bad league structure for it without recognising his own stupidity that you can just have the roster you can finance – in an interview he recently said that with less money you can’t promote, but obviously he doesn’t get the idea to just have a roster according to the financial possibilities that maybe does not play for promotion; not the league, but morons like him on the GM positions are to blame for the bad financial situation.

Adam Maurer: no idea what’s up with him. Maybe he stays in the team, maybe not. Speaking for him are the latest performances before the break; speaking against him is the improved injury situation of the team.

Philip Salyer is back to the USA, you probably know that.

    SOUTH

Jamath Shoffner was not on the expected lineup for the cancelled game. According to the coach anyone will get a chance to play as the team practically is relegated; we’ll see how much he can add to his five games.

Roussel Payne, Tim Lawson, Michael Mason: the team is in the quarter final of the Saarland Cup, a qualifying tournament for the DFB Cup (the national cup competition) after a narrow 2:1 win against a D6 team. The whole team is having major injury problems, which unfortunately includes Payne and Mason. Payne has meniscus irritation (?) and Mason has a torn muscle exactly at the same muscle as before, which will cause a longer break. Good news for Lawson though: the coach praised him for his off season work “Tim Lawon and Daniel Schommer developed good in the pre-season and are firm players sizes for us.”

Pellegrino Mattarazzo: haven’t heard anything about him in the last weeks. Derek Phillips left to TuRu Düsseldorf, but we had that already.

Eric Lukin, John van Buskirk, Caleb Norkus: In the quarter final of the Westfalen Cup [also qualifier to the nationwide DFB Cup] Siegen won 2-1 after overtime against the reserves of Borussia Dortmund. All goals happened in the overtime, but van Buskirk already was out after 38 minutes with an injury. Lukin went full 120 as left backer, Norkus DNP – I don’t know his standing in the team; last I heard was that he missed the training camp due to problems with the gall bladder.

Tom Dooley: major problems for him. 1.FC Saarbrücken is on a sportive good way, but now DFB is investigating against them with the aim to cancel their licence for the current season, which would make them relegate with 0 points. Problem: Saarbrücken had to prove securities of 2.6 M last for the last licensing, but 1.7 M were proved with a testified bank cheque that never was cashed at the bank – something they had to do as it otherwise is no security. By that they were fooling the licensing procedure and consequently did not fulfil the determinations to get the licence for the current season. Usual consequence is cancelling the licence, which can only be reduced to fine or point reduction in case of special circumstances.
