Yes, I do realize our "Union" is about the creation of our nation but like many of you I had to answer numurous questions about labor union ties and such...
In planning for the pre-season game in Greensboro, N.C. I was talking to a few friends who live down there about getting together and coming to the game since they're mostly Philly transplants as well as sport nuts. The first response was "Union? As in the Union Army? You know they still take that real serious down here" I don't think it's that big of an issue than again I've watched an Old Firm Match in the Dark Horse while wearing Green :D
I have seen civil war caps at a few SOB/DVI functions including the World Cup city bid. There are a number of histortic ties to Philly to include the Philadelphia Brigade. Anyhow, what is our stance on Civil War Union Ties?

The War of Northern Aggression is still an issue in some less educated parts of the state. Greensboro and any city along major highways like 85 and 40 have a fair share of imports from all over the country and are less likely to distrust everything Yankee like their brethren in the foothills, mountains, and beaches.

I went to college and worked a couple of years after school down there.

I completely agree & truly believe that we won't have any issue for the pre-season game. I for one don't get too far away from the major highways while down South. I don't care how big that super fireworks warehouse is, haha.
I realize in many sports supporters circles, that fans like to tie in historical references in regards to signage & outfits. I am wondering aloud with availability of civil war attire, mainly the easily recoginzible cap. It that something we would embrace or try to stay away from?

The "easily recognizable" hat would be awesome.

If you want one, search for "union kepi" on eBay; there are plenty of replicas available, often for $10 or less, thanks to the reenactors.

You can wear what you want and I will wear what I do. Besides uniforms in the civil war were all over the place.

Specifically people were talking about union army uniforms. From the revolutionary war right up to the civil war where they were still our team color.

Yeah, if you look at some of the reenactor shops (especially the huge one in Gettysburg), the Confederate colors were all over the place especially late in the war -- gray, butternut, light blue ...

The team colors are from the revolutionary war not the civil war. The civil war hat should be out. Think George Washington!
