His position has been midfield right in a straightforward 4-4-2. 3rd season in a row he's been on loan and played a brand new position. Hull he was basically a support striker/wide forward in a very attacking minded team where he could play as he pleased. Derby for the first third of the season he was a wide forward but at some point he was put in the midfield of a 4-3-3 (4-2-3-1 some games). Lampard's team was attacking but in the second half Wilson was doing a lot more covering with Mount being part of the forward 3 more often than Wilson was. Now he's playing midfield right in a very orthodox 4-4-2 that is set up to play direct, but not possession based football. Wilson's is more of a midfield right, in contrast to Fraser who plays more of winger role. The positive is that he has managed to adapt each season, the negative is that the Wilson we had in our youth teams and was at Hull was a great attacker (not just goalscorer) and last season's spell at Derby had seen that freedom and adventure drilled out of his game. Take away the goals and he's not looked great, but that seems to be a part of the way Bournemouth play. Their wide midfielders don't seem to see a lot of the possession of the ball, they are there to create width and space while maintaining the teams shape. Wilson just does not look as energetic as King and Fraser yet, but he is getting into regular shooting positions for the team. A goal every 104 minutes in midfield in the Prem is pretty good so far, but overall he's a work in progress for Bournemouth. I still think he'd be a great squad addition for us, but I'm 90% sure he's gone next summer (maybe even this winter, if some club wants to beat the summer rush and get him on a pre contract). In other news Woodburn had an excellent game on Saturday, two assists and a hand in two other goals as Oxford won 6-0 away from home.

Wilson has see much playing time at Bournemouth. Woodburn plays just down the road from me at the Kassam stadium. I. Think I’ll have me a look.
Another goal from Wilson today, this one a nicely taken shot off a corner. It adds to Wilson's impressive talley for the season but wasn't enough to carry Bournemouth, who lost 2-1 to Newcastle.
https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-duo-set-leave-january-20955865 Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to allow young pair Rhian Brewster and Caoimhin Kelleher to leave the club on loan in January.
Crystal Palace closing in on January loan signing of Liverpool star Rhian Brewster https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...-Crystal-Palace-Rhian-Brewster-Premier-League Don't see Hodgson as the ideal manager for Brewster to develop under ............
Hodgson is a decent manager, just pointless loan for Brewster who is unlikely to get too many minutes in the Prem. Zamora, Odemwingie and Zaha have all played their best football under Hodgson. Townsend has also looked good under him the last few seasons. He's able to use strong, technically gifted forwards, so I have no problem him going to Roy next year. But right now he needs to establish himself, the Championship or Eredevise are better options for the rest of the season. Though I'd not be loaning him out at all unless we were bringing in another forward or recalling Wilson.
but Wilson is a midfielder not a striker. we shouldn't be letting Brewster go anywhere right now. Origi and Shaq are ahead of him as bench options, but jeez, one or two bad injuries and we could be really screwed for goalscoring choices up front.
No. For the youth team he was an (outstanding) wide forward, for his first loan spell at Hull he was an (outstanding) wide forward. At Derby they changed his position half-way through the season they switched him to midfield due to wanting to play Mount in the hole and being stacked with forwards (Waghorn, Lawrence, Jozefroon, Bennett, Marriott and Nugent) who could not play in midfield as well as him. Last season Derby went from 4-3-3, to 4-2-3-1 back to 4-3-3. Wilson spent half in the middle half in the forward 3. He's gone to Bournemouth to play for the injured Brooks position, in a very conservative 4-4-2, which limits his chances. Against City he came off the bench and played as a SS and had an amazing game, last weekend they played a 3-4-3 with Wilson in the forward 3 but played poorly and have abandoned that formation. Eddie Howe either due to his own preferences or the squad he has available, can only really play 4-4-2. The trouble is Wilson is not suited to play in a forward 2, the physical presence is just not there. He's easily bullied. A wide forward, SS/Hole or even midfield are positions he can play, with varying degrees of success. Perhaps if Howe had him for a preseason he could have fit him into that position, but his loan move was so late he's not had time to play him there in games he can afford to lose. Wilson's best position is a forward, in a very similar system to how we play. His last two loans have not used him as such and may have hindered his chances of making it at Liverpool, though cemented his position as a Prem footballer. Certainly agree with that. Additions, not subtractions is what the window should be for.
the club classify him as a midfielder and "versatile attacking player" https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team/player/harry-wilson mind you they also classify Shaq as a midfielder ... and I think of him as a winger.
The online department probably do (it is where he has played the last two seasons), his youth career for Liverpool and the two preseasons he has been involved in for Liverpool has been as a wide forward.
varying nomenclature ... that's all we need. BTW I'm not trying to argue with you pikas - mainly coz you're right these days the lines between a striker and an attacking midfielder are pretty blurred.
