Harsh. Cleverly was on the last year of his cintract and the rumours were £8mil.

He will go for more than £10mil, i think.

Lingard this season has played 25 games in the PL and a total of 1636 mins whereas the most appearances in a season Adnan has is 18 games and a total of 867 mins (this was last season). So Lingard has played almost double the number of minutes compared to Adnan so I don't buy into this argument that Adnan has had plenty of chances.

In any case my whole point was that I think we should give chances to players who have a little more creativity about them. I just mentioned Adnan and Pereira as right now both are at the club and are (more or less) from the youth team and it was easy to make the comparison.

Also I can't see what quality Lingard adds to be honest. The only reason LvG plays him is because he follows instructions down the tee. He basically was Young's backup and got his chance when Young got injured.

In the league, 25 games played. 1636 minutes. 4 goals. 1 assist.

And its not like he is creating, dribbling, threatening with pace or doing anything else offensively.

He basically recycles possession without anything creative, incisive or even just in the forwards direction. His main spike is that he stands in the place that LVG wants him to. And will put in a two way shift.

My favourite moment from the last game was when we were on a rare counter-attack and the ball was played early to Lingard in space on the right wing. He looked up and immediately cut back inside, running past and behind the player who passed him the ball. :ROFLMAO:

Still want to sell him @nimma ? Didn't start yesterday but had a impact off the bench. That's what good squad players do.

He's an instinctive finisher, but when given time he fluffs his lines. (as we have seen several times this season). I can see him having a good career at a decent mid table PL club.

Agree with this sentiment about good squad players, but like I said earlier, I would rather give chances to the likes of Adnan and Pereira. I am not ungrateful for his goal yesterday and happy for the kid but I don't see enough quality in there.

Lingard is another player who apparently has been working hard this summer.

Lingard lays the teams's and his personal goals for the coming season: "As a younger player, your first few games are always going to be nervy but my confidence grew the more I played. We want to be in the Champions League, of course, but our focus is on the title. My aim is to score over 10 goals and win at least two trophies. That would be a good season."

Lingard makes a perfectly suitable squad player for us. I'd like to see him pick up his defensive game but his development as an attacking player is coming along nicely.

But no, he will never be in the same class as Martial or Rashford.

    Giggs on Lingard.

As a standin for Sterling, Lingard did well in these 2 games for. With a little luck, he can establish himself as a solid squad option, in the same fashion he does for United.

That's too much for him. Him and the likes of Young are overpaid.

Lingard is an Inbetweener - not good enough to be a guarenteed starter for a top side like us but as a youth product (which gets him extra credit) not bad enough to ditch - so useful to the squad.

    So sure its high for a squadie but I think the club have factored in the following;

    - he can score goals at this level (which is a lot harder than many imagine)
    - is happy with a squad role (many players arent)
    - he is a youth product so helps with the credibility of our whole youth setup in having players like him, Pogba, Rashford in the squad
    - helps in the dressing room as is mates with Pogs, Rash etc.
    - helps credibility with the local media as is a local lad
    - which all fits with the ethos of the club

Am sure his agent aware of all this so not surpised he leveraged it or that we ponied up :)

That is outrageous, what are we the new Arsenal. He should have been peddled if we wanted more than 60-70 k. If we buy a better winger or one of Perreira or Angel Gomes steps up he will not even a squaddie but a backup.

Elite players in England are on 180-200k a week now. Less than 100k for a squaddie isn't awful.

-3 goals in 19 appearances. None in the league this year. 4 goals in 32 appearances last year.
    - With 95 k many people would be happy being squad players. That question is what he offers as a squad player, nothing special.
    - We have better youth products, he is 24 year old player.
    - Irrelevant and a guess.
    -See above.
    - Which player does not fit with the club ethos ?

All bullshit, will be doing a Cleverley if we ever got anyone to take him.
