    Match 23 - Results:

    Sporting B....0-2 Real Oviedo

    Lealtad.......3-0 Tuilla

    Navarro.......0-0 Caudal

    Siero..........5-1 Real Tapia

    Colloto........2-2 Condal

    Llanes.........3-3 Union Ceares

    Langreo.......2-1 Hispano

    Real Aviles...0-2 Cudillero

    Ribadesella...1-1 Universidad

    Astur...........3-2 Candas

    Top of Table:

    1 Real Oviedo.... 23 51 16 3 4 53 19
    2 Lealtad.......... 23 49 14 7 2 35 17
    3 Cudillero........ 23 44 12 8 3 32 22
    4 Tuilla............. 23 43 12 7 4 34 23
    --------Play-Offs------------------
    5 Langreo......... 23 38 11 5 7 37 26
    6 Universidad.... 23 38 10 8 5 37 27
    7 Caudal........... 23 37 10 7 6 40 28

It looks like top 4 will contest the Play-Offs, the next 3 with a good run could get near. Lealtad or Oviedo for the title.

Oviedos' away win snuffed out Sportings' slim Play-Off chances. Lealtad extended their impresive run to 17 games unbeaten and 6 wins on trot, with a 3-0 home win over 3rd placed Tuilla. Cudillero jumped from 4th to 3rd with a 2-0 away win at 8th placed Aviles (who are now 10 points from a play-off spot). Langreo struggled to beat doomed Hispano, while both Caudal and Universidad drew. Unless those 3 find something special they will miss out on Play-Offs, the 4 in the play off places currently probably deserve to stay their. Lealtad are on an absolutely amazing run, Match 26 Oviedo v Lealtad looks like being a massive match.

Lealtads' meteoric rise up the table:

    1 Real Oviedo 5 5 0 0 14 4 15
    2 Caudal...... 6 3 3 0 11 6 12
    3 Universidad 5 4 0 1 10 5 12
    4 Llanes....... 6 3 2 1 10 5 11
    5 Cudillero.... 6 3 2 1 5 4 11
    6 Tuilla........ 6 3 2 1 6 6 11
    7 Astur........ 6 3 1 2 8 7 10
    8 Navarro..... 6 3 1 2 6 5 10
    9 Ceares...... 6 3 1 2 6 6 10
    10 Lealtad.... 6 2 2 2 6 5 8

This is the position in week 7 that Lealtad faced Oviedo, Lealtad had just lost heavily to Cudillero and had only won once in the previous 5 matches. Oviedo had won 5 matches in a row and there was thoughts of running away with the league and pulverising pretty much all opposition, this league was going to be easy. Lealtad subsequently won the match 1-0 and since then have been unbeaten in 17 matches.

    1 Oviedo.......... 18 11 3 4 39 15 36
    2 Lealtad......... 17 12 5 0 29 12 41

You wonder had Oviedo won that match back in November where would Lealtad be now? You hope the rematch at the Carlos Tartiere will see a positive result and the start of a new kind of run, a long string of defeats for Lealtad! (here's hoping!)

The 2 matches the sides have leading upto the fixture:
    Oviedo - (h) Aviles (8th) (a) Siero (13th)
    Lealtad - (a) Tapia (18th) (h) Cudillero (3rd)
So should be two easy wins for Oviedo, Tapia on Lealtads form dead cert win but hopefully Cudillero can spring a shock, a draw shouldn't be beyond them. (a nice 4 point cushion would be good going into the match for Oviedo - fingers crossed)

Oviedos' new players, Bravo, Pacheta and Mario Prieto should be fully fit and intergrated into the team by then so hopefully this is the start of the improvement in form all the way to the Play-Offs and beyond.

    Oviedin.com - ratings (rated 0-2 usually, 3 meaning exceptional)

    Aulestia............ 3
    L.Iglesias.......... 2
    José Luis........... 1
    Lasarte............. 1
    Bravo............... 2
    Sergio Villanueva 1
    Falo................. 3
    Curro............... 1
    Diego Cervero.... 2
    Bruno............... 2
    Pacheta............ 1
    Subs: Jaime, Santos, Mario Prieto

    Man of Match: Falo

Oviedin match report: congratulated Carrasco on picking the right formation and Falo in midfield, who subsequently ran the show.
Disappointments Curro, and second half Villanueva faded (i feel criticism a little harsh first half he played well - disappeared in second but when switched to right wing on 79 mins when Santos came onto left side, Villanueva showed his ability with a couple of surging runs. He suffered two clattering fouls which ended with him being stretchered off) Oviedin.com noted the vital importance of Mario Preitos intrduction at a time when Oviedo were being over-run, from the substitution onwards the match swung Oviedos way. Special acknowledgement for underfire goalkeeper Aulestia, he rose to the challenge and had made vital saves. A decent win but par for the course, it was after all Sporting Gijon "B".

January Transfer Window (in and outs)

    Signings

Francisco Javier López BRAVO (central defender) 34 La Unión (3rd)
MARIO PRIETO García (central midfielder) 31 Melilla (2aB) ex-Oviedo
Hector Rojo Carrasco, PACHETA 27 (striker) Fundación Logroñés (3rd)

    Ones that got away

Dario Aliaga (Marino - 2aB ex-Oviedo) Striker - interest ended once Pacheta signed
Cristian (Gimnástica - 3rd) Striker (15 goals this season) - interest ended once Pacheta signed
Ivan Ania (Lorca Deportiva -2aB ex-Oviedo) Midfielder thought too old - 31
Iván Casquero (Fuerteventura - 2aB ex-Oviedo) - Left sided Defender - wage demands too high.
Johann Loe (Onteniente - 2ªB) - trialist - again interest cooled once Pacheta signed

    Loans out

    Dani Garcia (Betanzos ---> 3rd)
    Pablo Prieto (Llanes ---> 3rd)

Director of football Galan gets alot of flack but he said a defender, a midfielder and a striker would sign and that is exactly what happened. Some crisicism that no one else came in most notably Ivan Ania a free agent and willing to sign. Repotedly the player who played a good many games in Primera for Oviedo in the good old days is now too old, the squad needs to have the right mix with midfield being over optimum age allready (according to Galan). A player of Ivan Anias' quality would be a welcome addition. Likewise left back Ivan Casquero another player who's played in Primera for Oviedo, his transfer fell through when he looked like signing this time to his wage demands, some say Galan offered too little. The striking targets all looked top quality Cristian with 15 goals in Tercera (Group3) and then Dario Aliaga a striker from the team of 2003 that won the Tercera play-offs so comprehensively. Hopefully Pacheta is head and shoulders above them!

The 3 signings all look like they could be very good players for Oviedo. The few games they've have so far played have shown that they could be just what was needed when the window opened.

Armando Quesada seems to be out in the cold, in a game you have to win you would like to see him in team with Pacheta out injured, will Carrasco recall him?
If Lasarte doesn't prove fitness with Dani Garcia out on loan very few options at left back, perhaps Bravo with Jose Luis at right back and Lucas moving into middle.

Again shock horror Carrasco went pretty much with the team the fans wanted, with one notable exception. Man of match against Sporting B Falo got dropped in favour of new signing Mario Prieto, a brave decision and probably right if he was confident in the fitness of the two midfielders he chose. Lasarte also proved his fitness so it was a full strength defence and a strong looking team allround. Armando Quesada got a start and scored again, being a football manager really isn't rocket science is it!

Aulestia put in a good performance when called upon, after a towering match last week that seems to have instilled him with a new confidence. Curro was probably man of the match in midfield with Sergio Villanueva again asked to forage on the left putting in another classy performance. Villanueva is probably the best player at Oviedo on form in the last few months. One player out of sorts in that time, Diego Cervero, again goal-less and unable to put away a few decent chances against Aviles. Bravo scored his first goal for the club, both him and Meijide look menacing at set plays. So while Cervero has stopped scoring, goals are coming from other sources - hopefully that is a good sign.

So a great result and a good performance, good performances two matches in a row, blimey Carrasco might even have stumbled upon a team here! Not only a great result for Oviedo but all their rivals slipped up too.

So a great great week, a set of results that couldn't have been wished for.
2nd placed Lealtad drew 0-0 with 18th placed Real Tapia
3rd placed Cudillero drew 1-1 at home with 13th placed Siero
4th placed Tuilla lost 0-2 at home to Langreo (5th)

Oviedo increased their lead to 4 points so that they will definately be top going into the Oviedo v Lealtad match in 2 weeks time.

5th, 6th (universidad) and 7th (Caudal) all won so the last 2 Play-off spots are certainly still up for grabs.

5 matches unbeaten, 16 goals scored in last 8 matches.
    decent away performances 1-1 Cudillero (3rd) 2-2 Tuilla (4th) 2-2 Caudal (7th).

    Home form:
    17th place 11matches 13points 3wins 4draws 4defeats goals:16for 16against

2 of those 3 wins have come in last 2 home matches 5-1 v Real Tapia (18th) and 1-0 Hispano (20th) so home form was shockingly bad before, and still is.

    Goalscorers:
    13 Oscar Pantín
    5 Jorge
    3 Otero
    3 Javi Caso

Oscar Pantin is the highest goalscorer in the division outside of the Real Oviedo team, he has scored 6 in the last 8 games so is an obvious threat.

    ---

Should be another win building on from our current good form. Can't afford to slip up against such sides and really shouldn't. With a strong team and hopefully Pacheta back in the side an easy win should be forthcoming

Siero players in dispute with their board over unpaid wages. Since October the club have defaulted payment, and before a match with Cudillero the team was close to going on strike. There is a suggestion they may not play on Sunday if they are not paid.

    Oviedo team news:
Curro picked up a fifth yellow card so misses Siero match, so that gives Falo chance to restake a claim to a central midfield spot.

Pacheta could miss game as hasn't trained so far this week.

    ---

So Aulestia has a fight on his hands to be named top goalkeeper in this division.
2 cleansheets in last 2 matches have certainly helped his cause.
Diego Cervero has had the top goalscorer in the bag for months but he really needs to turn around his loss of form soon. Pacheta has 17 goals from Tercera group XVI so whether they get accredited to him in this division (Group II) is anyones guess. On form Oscar Pantín of Siero with 6 goals in 8 matches could catch up, obviously he'll be goalless this weekend though!

Worst result of the season, again bizarre team selction and again Carrasco shows no evidence that he has a team capable of winning through the play-offs. FFS they are going to struggle currently to win this division.
Centron wasn't deemed fit enough to make bench after training all week so left sided Jaime played on left of midfield - logical enough selection so far. Sergio Villanueva our in form player was dropped in favour of Bruno for no apparant reason, a decent player but more at home in middle and not the same threat on the wings as Villanueva. Personnel not entirely the main problem more the formation back to the double pivot and Armando not playing as second striker but withdrawn playing as a midfielder ahead of the two holding players.
Negative selection against a team potentially there for the kill. Game started with a wimper and Siero were allowed to get into their stride under no pressure.
First half Oviedo were poor second half poorer. Half time brought the double substitution of Bruno and Falo for Sergio Villanueva and Jose Luis - like for like essentially and nothing changed until the second goal went in, that seemed to wake up the Oviedo players. At 0-2 on paper a strong Oviedo side were playing boring dull football and being outplayed by pitifully weak opposition. Shamefull almost playing like the gutless nobodies of last saeson.
Plus points not many Mario Prieto had some good touches but not fully fit and as all subs used had to play full 90mins. The wide men provided no width, with Villanueva the only player to provide an outlet of attack and that was when 0-2 down.
Absolute rubbish and Carrascos selection can be blamed totally for a completely unforgivable display.

Incidentally Meijide is out injured for atleast a month so that throws a massive spanner in the works. Our main defender out just as we hoped a strong central defensive partnership was forming with Bravo.

Maybe Pacheta will be back next game maybe not but things are at critical stage, lose next week and Carrasco can kiss away the championship and most likely his job too!

    Results Week 25

    Siero......... 2 - 0 Real Oviedo
    Lealtad...... 1 - 1 Cudillero
    Llanes....... 2 - 0 Caudal
    Langreo..... 1 - 0 Real Tapia
    Navarro...... 3 - 0 Tuilla

    Condal....... 2 - 1 Candas
    Sporting B.. 1 - 1 Ribadesella
    Colloto...... 0 - 0 Union Ceares
    Astur........ 2 - 1 Hispano

Shocking result for Oviedo helped slightly by some results going our way most notably Lealtad drawing at home with 3rd placed Cudillero. Langreo jump upto 4th almost from nowhere (6 straight wins) while Tuilla embarrasing lost 0-3 defeat to 14th placed Navarro to drop two places to 6th. Universidad won to stretch their unbeaten run to 9 matches while Llanes (10 games unbeaten) beat play-off rivals Caudal. Add Universidads' and LLanes' impressive unbeaten runs together and you match Lealtads 19 game unbeaten run which has seen them on the verge of leapfrogging Real Oviedo in the table.

so 1st versus 2nd and 3rd versus 4th, then 5th, 6th and 7th all at home to teams they should beat. The Play-Offs could bunch up even more, but hopefully Oviedo will be 6 points clear of the pack with a comprehensive home win.

so the biggest match of the season is upon us.

And bad news, two of our most important players Diego Meijide and Pacheta are out injured.
Meijide is out for atleast a month with a pulled muscle (hamstring), but on the record of the medical staff this season we'll be very lucky to see him back that soon.
Pacheta is out for a minimum of 2 weeks with a pulled muscle too (quadracep).

Relatively good news, Centron our left sided midfielder and Stefan our striker have trained all week and look to be fully recuperated and available for selection.

My team to face Lealtad would be:

    GK Aulestia

    CB Lucas Iglesias......................CB Bravo

    RB Jose Luis.........................................................LB Lasarte

    CM Mario Prieto.......................CM Curro

    RM Sergio Villanueva....................................................LM Centrón

    CF Armando Quesada.......................CF Diego Cervero

bench: Ivan GK, Jaime, Falo, Jon Carrera, Stefan

Obviously Carrasco is the tinkerman so i'm guessing he'll do something surreal and pick a few players completely out of position and out of their comfort zone.

We have very few options now in defence with Meijide joining long-term absentees Carmona and Juan Luis. Lucas Iglesias says he prefers to play in the centre of defence, he has a good month to show Carrasco that he can play there. Jose Luis hopefully comes in at right back and we don't have a hotch potch of midfielders filling in in alien defensive positions. Central midfield is the only area with real competition Curro returns from suspension and is probably the first name on the team sheet, Mario Prieto approaching full match fitness is one of the next names. that leaves Falo and Jon Carrera too decent players at Tercera level out of the team. Sergio Villanueva has to be on the right side of midfield, and hopefully on left will be a rejuvenated Centron. Carrasco has to return to 4-4-2, at home in a game we must win, this is the only way forward. Cervero isn't scoring at present so we need to take off the pressure and not leave him upfront on his own. Armando Quesada scores goals at this level, 69 goals in 3 seasons, and averaging a goal in less than 90mins this season. Give our two strikers decent service and we will win, football really is that simple.
Strange that last season Armando and Cervero paired up as the Lealtad front two and got them very close to winning through the play-offs after finishing 2nd. Cervero signed in January and scored 8 goals while Armando was top scorer in this division with 26. Hopefully they can destroy their former club!

    43 points in 19 matches

    Goalscorers:
    11 Rubén Fernández
    5 Chiqui Abad
    4 Elías
    4 Andrés
    4 Fidalgo

Midfielder Rubén Fernández is their best player and main goalscoring threat.

Goalkeeper David (17 goals conceded in 24 matches) is currently clear favourite to win the Zamora title as the best goalkeeper in this division.

Central midfielder Caco Moran joined from Oviedo in the summer after 3 seasons with the club.

Manager Ricardo Bango had 2 spells at Real Oviedo as a player and is well repected at the club and amongst fans. Next Oviedo manager possibly?

    Lealtad Away Form:
    3rd in Division 13 matches 6 wins 5 draws 2 defeats goals for 18 against 14 23points.

    Oviedo Home Form:
    1st in division 12 matches 10 wins 2 draws 0 defeats goals for 41 against 7 32points

    Current Table:

    1 Real Oviedo.... 25 17 .3 .5 ..57 21 ..54
    2 Lealtad............ 25 14 .9 .2 ..36 18 ..51
    3 Cudillero.......... 25 12 10 3 ..34 24.. 46
    4 Langreo........... 25 13 .5 .7 ..40 26 . 44

    ---------------------------Play-offs---------------------
    5 Universidad..... 25 12 .8 5 ..42 29.. 44
    6 Tuilla.............. 25 12 .7 .6 ..34 28.. 43
    7 Caudal............ 25 11 .7 .7 ..43 30.. 40
    8 Llanes............. 25 .9 11 .5 ..34 22 ..38

A win would dent Lealtads' confidence and make the Play-offs a near certainty for Oviedo.
A defeat and Lealtad would go top and the Championship could well be theirs, Oviedo would have to regroup and hope key injured players come back sooner rather than later.

    Iker Lasarte
    Jose Luis

    Midfielders (Centrocampistas):

    Roberto Santos
    Sergio Villanueva
    Jaime

    Forwards (Delanteros):
    Armando Quesada
    Diego Cervero
    Stefan
    Bruno

Not many options in defence, but almost full strength in midfield. Hopefully the tinkerman picks the sensible options and not go for another experimental side. It is time to win and seal the championship, if you still have a job in August senor Carrasasco practice your formations then in pre-season.

Anything other than a win and the grumblings of fans could become real demonstrations.
