Real Madrid may visit Taiwan (Taipei) for the first time in August. Either 1 or 4 August, just before they are scheduled to visit Beijing's Bird's Nest.

Does Taipei have a suitable stadium? They will probably get players from China and Hong Kong to supplement their own team.

Hopefully this will stimulate the growth of soccer in Taiwan.

Thought the only soccer stadium in Taiwan was demolished or shut down.

    Zhongshan Soccer Stadium - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chungshan_Soccer_Stadium

It played host to the 2010 East Asian Football Championship semi-final round and the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers, so it's suitable.

It was meant to shut down but was delayed until a new venue is unearthed.

The 2010 East Asian Football Championship semi-final round was played in Kaohsiung's World Games Stadium, not in Taipei at all.

I saw the Chungshan Stadium two years ago and it was so run-down. With only a capacity for 20,000 I doubt it will be profitable for the organizers to organize a exhibition match of this scale there.

There is the new Taipei Gymnasium (I think they meant Track and Field Stadium), which can hold 20,000.

But if they are spend Euro 3m to invite Real, then you are looking at 150 euro per ticket. That's without the costs of everything else like flights, security, hotels...etc.

The only two FIFA approved stadiums in Taiwan are the World Games Stadium in Kaohsiung, which is where the 2009 EAFF was staged or the newly rebuilt Taipei Municipal Stadium, which Angsa posted pictures of.

Zhongshan Stadium is a goner as it is being renovated to host the 2010 International Horticultural Expo. The whole area surrounding that stadium is undergoing tons of work for the event.

As for Real Madrid in Taipei, it will be a good thing for the small numbers of football fans in Taiwan. Hopefully it will raise the profile of the sport a bit.
