Re: Real Betis Balompie should have done better[R]

I think that Betis will do much better especially since Bilbao will have to open up their lines if they want to win the match at home. Once they do that Betis should be able to exploit those openings and move onto the finals. Don't forget that the key to this match will be what Betis does earlier that weekend when they play the scum from Nervion in the Derby at home. If they kick the scums ass then they will be bouyed for the return leg in Bilbao. :D

El Derby Sevillano will be televised here in the US on GOLTV Saturday at 1600 hrs EDT, 1300 hr PST.

The emails on the Betis list show little optimism for a Betis win this match. The way I see it is that either they win on Saturday or the whole lot should be traded or fired!

Now that Los VerdiBlancos have taken care of Sevilla, it's time for Athletic Bilbao. I am getting a real warm & fuzzy feeling about this match.

Athletic: Lafuente; Iraola, Prieto, Lacruz, Del Horno; Orbaiz, Gurpegi, Etxeberria, Yeste, Ezquerro; y Urzaiz.

Betis: Doblas; Melli, Juanito, Rivas, Luis Fernández; Arzu, Assunçao, Joaquín, Denilson, Fernando; y Oliveira.

    Árbitro: Megía Dávila (C. Madrileño).

    Estadio: San Mamés. --HORA: 21:00.

HURRAY BETIS IS IN THE FINAL. It wasn't a pretty match & I really dislike how the Bilbao fans & playas acted in the match. The fans tried to intemediate the playas & refs. They were just awfull. Then the playas hacked whenever possible. I thought I was watch a New York Knick Basketball game. WTF

Anyways, Doblas is the man. Need I say more?? :D

Atlético Madrid 1-2 Real Betis: FT Report

MADRID, May 15 (Primera Liga) - Two goals from Ricardo Oliveira kept Real Betis in the hunt for a Champions League place as they overcame Atletico Madrid in the Vicente Calderon.

The Brazilian striker scored a header after 16 minutes and a penalty just before the break to put Betis in control of the game.

Atletico pulled a goal back early in the second half when defender Melli put the ball in his own net, but the home side were always struggling to break down the visitors' well-organised defence.

With a barrage of whistles from a half-empty stadium every time they touched the ball, it was hardly surprising that Atletico appeared consumed with anxiety early on.

Desperate to make amends after their Cup exit to Osasuna last Thursday, the home side did their best to impose themselves on the Cup finalists.

Youth team striker Braulio stole the ball off David Rivas after six minutes, setting up partner Fernando Torres, but the Spain international's hurried shot was straight at Antonio Doblas.

Defender Juan Velasco thumped a shot against the post as Betis struggled to clear a corner after 11 minutes, but the Andalucians always looked dangerous on the break.

Oliveira had already forced Leo Franco into two saves before giving the visitors the lead in the 16th minute.

Marcos Assuncao's near-post corner was flicked over Leo Franco by Oliveira, and the jeers against the home side grew louder.

Atletico's Argentinian playmaker Ariel Ibagaza swung a free-kick over the wall and against the upright after 31 minutes, but it was symptomatic of his side's luck when Torres failed to capitalise on the rebound as the ball landed at his feet.

Betis were gifted the second by Atletico midfielder Gonzalo Colsa as he stuck out a hand to block Assuncao's free-kick in the area eight minutes before the break.

Oliveira converted from the penalty spot with ease, taking his tally for the season to 21.

A large slice of luck put the home side back in the game soon after the restart when Ibagaza's far-post shot deflected of Melli, leaving Doblas stranded in the visitors' goal.

But chances remained at a premium in the second half as Betis closed ranks to play on the break, while Atletico laboured to create openings.

The introduction of Uruguayan forward Richard Nunez added some spark to Atletico's attacks as the game drifted to a close.

Doblas made a double save from Garcia Calvo's flying header and Nunez's follow-up six minutes from time.

Soon after, Braulio's surging run into the area brought calls for a penalty as he went down under a challenge in the area, but Atletico failed to breach the visitors' defence in the closing minutes.

    Well,

we didn't get the loss by the ************ CF but at least we depend on ourselves and not that other team across town. Mallorca will not be easy especially since they are only one point ahead of Levante. Meanwhile the ************ CF has to play against Malaga and they hate all teams from Sevilla capital!

    Villareal 62 pts
    El Glorioso 61 pts
    ************ CF 60 pts
    Espanyol 58 pts

    Games this weekend:

    Villareal-Levante
    Mallorca-Betis
    ************ CF -Malaga
    Espanyol-Athletic

Rather ironic that both Villareal and Betis play against teams that are fighting it out for avoiding relegation. As for the ************ CF they play at home against Malaga and I am sure the suitcases are on their way for to ensure that the Malaguenos do all they can to tie or win that match. All games involving relegation, UEFA slots or CL slots will be played on Sunday at 2100 hrs so it will be interesting what games GolTV shows live versus SDD.

If Betis and Villareal tie betis wins the tie breaker based on 0-0 and 2-1 results between the two.

If Betis and Sevilla tie then the tie breaker is decided on goal differential since the two played to a 2-1 and 1-0 split in the derby.

If the ************ CF and Villareal tie then ************ CF will win the tie breaker based on 2-1 and 0-0 results.

If both ************ FC and Betis lose and Espanyol wins then Villareal and Espanyol will qualify for CL since Espanyol wins the tie breaker against Betis.

If Betis loses, the ************ CF ties and Espanyol wins then the ************ CF will win the tiebreaker amongst the three teams.

El Glorioso has to win the 3 points in order to not have to depend on anyone else for a CL slot!

Well, Pichi, it's nice to see you finally understand the great Sevilla CF is much too dignified for your ugly, green keyboard. ;)

Great post, BTW. It really deserves another thread. Now, to get off my usual, partisan soapbox, it's been a great year for football in Sevlla. Both teams are going to Europe next year, with both still having a chance for the Champions League Both coaches deserve consideration for Coach of the Year. To top it off, both clubs developed talent that is worthy and likely to play for the greatest club of all, Real Madrid. :D

Lastly, I did a little poll at work about next Sunday night. I asked that if both Betis and the Great Sevilla CF made it to Champions League on Sunday, where would the best party be; Plaza Nueva or Puerta de Jerez. Puerta de Jerez won with 100% of the vote. Of course, as you might guess, I used very selective criteria in determining the questionees.

PS, if Betis and Sevilla do tie, Betis holds a +7 goal difference right now. They would have to lose by 8 goals for Sevilla to overtake them.

It only looks like one of the two teams from Hispalis will make the CL and you know where I stand on that!

Good to see your Presi Sr. Benavente or is it Sr. DelNazi complaining in Marca that Getafe was playing too aggressive this late in the season with nothing to play for and insinuating instead they should have rolled over and let your team win the match so they can claim their deserved CL slot!

The suitcases are already on there way from Hispalis to Malaga and Palma de Mallorca. I am sure that the Betis supplied suitcase weighs a lot more than the other one! :p

    Here is the game report:

Real Betis 3-2 Real Zaragoza: FT Report

Gabriel Milito headed over the first opportunity of the game in the second minute, but seconds later Zaragoza missed a glorious chance when Alvaro Maior de Aquino sliced a shot wide of the mark from just six yards out.

Betis responded with Fernando producing an inspired run, before his shot was well parried by goalkeeper Luis Garcia.

Moments later they came even closer when Marcos Assuncao's free-kick from just outside the penalty area hit the inside of the post before rolling along the line to Garcia.

Betis were producing all of the chances, and Oliveira headed over Joaquin's cross from eight yards.

The visitors did look threatening on the break though, and Alberto Zapater fired just wide following a cross from Savio, before Savio himself headed wide unmarked from six yards.

Zaragoza then took the lead when Savio found his range with a superb curling free-kick, which flew into the top-right corner of the goal with Antoni Prats rooted to the spot.

The goal gave the visitors the lead at the half-time interval, but Betis piled on the pressure in the early minutes of the second period, and Assuncao forced Garcia into a flying save.

The home side found the equaliser when Joaquin's cross was headed home by Juanito from six yards.

The goal gave Betis confidence, and they pushed forward looking for a second goal.

Joaquin sent a long-range right-footed shot just wide of the mark, and then Betis did take the lead when Fernando Varela's cross was fired home by Oliveira.

In the closing stages Betis gave themselves a two-goal cushion, to secure all three points.

Fernando latched on to a through ball from Arturo Arzu before drilling a shot into the top-left corner of the goal from the middle of the penalty area.

Fernando again came close with a curling free-kick, but Garcia made a smart save to deny the home side a fourth goal.

With the hosts content to sit on their lead, Zaragoza sensed an opportunity to salvage some pride, and the visitors pushed forward in the closing stages in search of a consolation goal.

The away side spurned a decent opening when Jose Movilla fired a right-footed shot across the face of goal after he had been released by Oscar.

Oscar did manage to halve the deficit four minutes into stoppage time at the end of the game, but it was far too little, too late for Zaragoza.

I am happy too that finally we get to the CL! (even if it has to be Betis :( )
Still you know that Sevilla is playing a hell of a lot better soccer than Betis, but the scores count more. Amazing to see Betis finally ahead of Sevilla and at this time of the season! who would have known. Let's see how Lopera gets the checkbook out this summer, I'd like to see Betis finally get up and claim a spot in the top teams in Spain, perphaps taking the space Deportivo is leaving....it's just that between Lopera and Ferrer....well, good luck. ;)

Iberian, what planet are you on?? This is one of the dumber things you have posted here. I will show you the real facts. [IMG]
In the last 6 matches for Betis & Scumbag Sevilla, Betis has posted a 3 win, 2 draw & one lost record. Scumbag Sevilla on the other hand has a 2 win, 3 draw, & one lost record. So what do you mean Scumbag Sevilla is playing better? Oh yeah, let's not forget that the one lost that Sevilla has in that timespan was to Betis. So bro before you come in here talkin' crap, check yourself & come correct. To me, you live in a glass house. I am on the outside ready to throw rocks at your punk crib & I will laugh as it comes down. Sorta like your Scumbag side of Real Madrid. Bro get a clue [IMG]
