I would have never put money down that Uruguay was going to knock off Argentina in their own soil.

    And Brasil is Brasil.

    Brazil was Brazil you mean.

Now, after all is said and done, I think:

    1. Paraguay / they have mastered the technique of infusing their rivals with despair, frustrating every one of their players, and making the public sleep. Horrible football, but executed so well you cannot fail to admire it, like gawking at a gargoyle in Notre Dame: the thing is butt ugly, but deserves respect.

    2. Uruguay / football is a game of brains and balls. Tabarez got the brains, the team got the balls. Showing their semifinal in the Mundial was no fluke, anyone who calls them "ratoneros" is clueless: they always keep at least three open venues of attack.

    3. Brazil / fallen giants but still enormous, they can play as a team only once in a while, most often they're nothing but an assorted collection of good players.

    4. Venezuela / yup, they are for real and they're spectacular. Or at least good enough to probably qualify for 2014.

    5. Chile / the new jogo bonito, lovely to watch and defending with three offers great spectacle but is far too vulnerable to counters. If Chile fixes their defense, they can be the New Brazil.

    6. Peru / sometimes a team hits rock bottom and needs a true Magician to come out of nothingness. Peru is a good example of what a good coach can do with a decent group of players.

    7. Colombia / fast wing play, solid defensive mids, disorganized defending, Colombia shows why great teams are made from the defense forward. The disconnect between the defensive half and the attacking half means they often take too long to organize themselves, and by the time they are ready, the team in front of them is already curled up into a rock.

    8. Argentina / a shadow of what they used to be, cuesta abajo en su rodada, nothing summarizes Argentina better than the Clarin title: "El Dolor de ya No Ser." It's going to be hard to rebuild, with a total lack of world class defensive players, it's like an animal with an imposing head but a weak body and paralized legs. Wouldn't be surprised if they fail to qualify for 2014.

When somehow you manage to get your attackers in the way of each other instead of playing together, you shouldn't be coaching.

    10. Bolivia / The sad, cold, dark deepest pit. Bolivia is the only CONMEBOL team that could be called a minnow, I still think they always do a lot better when Joselito Vaca is on the field --at least, they don't lose so badly.

I would put Peru on your first bracket, they have done far better then expected and Uruguay made the semis at the WC so them making the semis at the CA is not a surprise not to mention they knocked out Argentina, so I don't see how they are performing below expectations.

I would also put Chile on below exceptions, they where expected to run over Mexico U22 and Peru, they struggled vs both and where expected to beat Venezuela which they didnt.

Chile is still a very good team but they just havent really looked the same since Bielsa left.
