Controversial comic Louis C.K. performed another surprise set at New York’s Comedy Cellar late Sunday night — and patrons were not happy about it.

“He went on around midnight,” said a comedy source. “A few women walked out. He didn’t address [the #MeToo allegations against him]. He was a little arrogant … he made some comment like, ‘I’ve been off for a while, ‘cause everyone needs a break,’” the source said.

One audience member tweeted of C.K.’s set, “I saw Louis C.K. at the Comedy Cellar last night, and I’m happy to report that his new material is just as bad as the old.”

It's like I said, if you're just not funny, you're just not funny.

But, perversely, that's why I find it hard to take seriously this stuff about people being worried about him harming their career... because, who CARES what a comic says about another comic.







If that fella wasn't slagging off other comics he wouldn't HAVE an act.

 

I could easily do a short set on how bad Corden is. I was waiting for that to really begin.

 

The sexual dynamics of all those 1980s teen movies and comedies is pretty toxic by modern standards. IIRC, "Revenge of the Nerds" has one of the protagonists commit a sexual assault.

 

I agree but you get my point... the idea that one comic disliking another comic being a problem to the 2nd guy is an obvious nonsense.

Just ask yourself, who is more famous, James Corden or Stewart Lee?

Actually, tbh, Corden is also a competent actor and comedy writer, (although not much better than that), whilst Lee is just a stand-up who's not particularly amusing.

He was also taking a pop at people like Michael McIntrye who's equally talentless IMO, and Russell Howard who's moderate but not much more.

He's also criticised Peter Kay who had the largest comedy tour in the world with over one million ticket sales over a period of about 18 months with his 'Tour that didn't tour, tour'.

The thing is ALL of those people are more popular than Stewart Lee so it seems to me that a comic disliking another isn't a death knell for comics.

For her pains in reporting a sexual assault, Dr. Ford was mocked last night by the President of the United States, who received cheers for his comments.

And then these same people say they don't know why women don't report sexual assaults. Slap my head.

Then again, some polling did come out that a majority/plurality of Republicans would still want him confirmed even if the allegations were proven true, so maybe you are right and it is not a straw-man.

 

The fascinating thing about these fans of authoritarianism is that they are very dependent on those below them in the hierarchy. It's a weird co-dependency.

Again, Escape from Freedom is possibly the most important book for us to read right now. IMO it's even more important than it was 2 years ago, because back then, it was possible that the GOP establishment would find some kind of independent voice from Trump. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but they've been much worse than my low expectations. Trump as POTUS has been more or less what I expected. The rest of the party has been an ever-increasing nightmare.
