Hello all, Where for men there are market values and other extensive accounts on ranking of players, for women these sources are barely available. Therefore I decided to make a ranking of the best players per position. In this thread I ranked the best goalkeepers (and I will expand the list to about 25 players in due course). Of course currently this is mostly based on my opinion and therefore I like to ask you to give your view on matters, so we will also be able to classify the best players per position. 1. Hedvig Lindahl Date of Birth: 29 April 1983 Country: Sweden Height: 179 cm Weight: 74 kg Rating: 86 2. Hope Solo Date of Birth: 30 July 1981 Country: United States Height: 175 cm Weight: 69 kg Rating: 85 3. Karen Bardsley Date of Birth: 14 October 1984 Country: England Height: 182 cm Weight: 72 kg Rating: 83 4. Almuth Schult Date of Birth: 9 February 1991 Country: Germany Height: 180 cm Weight: 71 kg Rating: 82 5. Sarah Bouhaddi Date of Birth: 17 October 1986 Country: France Height: 175 cm Weight: 68 kg Rating: 82 6. Katarzyna Kiedrzynek Date of Birth: 19 March 1991 Country: Poland Height: 182 cm Weight: 73 kg Rating: 82 7. Erin McLeod Date of Birth: 26 February 1983 Country: Canada Height: 173 cm Weight: 73 kg Rating: 81 8. Ashlyn Harris Date of Birth: 19 October 1985 Country: United States Height: 175 cm Weight: 60 kg Rating: 80 9. Miho Fukumoto Date of Birth: 2 October 1983 Country: Japan Height: 164 cm Weight: 65 kg Rating: 79 10. Tinja-Riika Korpela Date of Birth: 5 May 1986 Country: Finland Height: 176 cm Weight: 66 kg Rating: 78
Lydia Williams from Australia definitely has to be in the Top 10. Hope Solo is still #1, even though Lindahl had a better Olympic tournament than she did. Unless having "class" about your opponent is a big part of their rating (which Solo has less of than Lindahl). Hope Solo is a coward when it comes to showing appreciation and respect for her opponent. And Pia doesn't really give a crap about that.
i think that Lindahl, Solo and Schult are the top three. I do think that Schult will be the number 1 because she is a fantastic goal keeper altought she does some mistakes sometimes.. when she gets some more experience I think she will be the number 1 and fill the shoes of Silke Rottenberg and Nadine Angerer. I can't wait for Solo to retire because I would like to see the U.S with a different goalkeeper than her lol
You're gonna regret that when you see Devon Kerr dominating matches for the USWNT, just like Solo did.
I see your point on Lydia Williams, she should indeed be a 79. Hope Solo has been performing for years indeed, but I feel she is decaying. I think Lindahl will be better the coming years, but indeed she might be 2nd place at the moment. @Thomsen: Schult is a good goalkeeper, but as you say she is not consistent enough at the moment. Bardsley also did some spectacular dives this season.
USWNT goalkeeper prospects: (both are Top 10 young Goalkeeper prospects in the world, and both have a very high ceiling)
Neat idea for a thread. But a couple of things, perhaps. Why does Lindahl get an 86 and not an 85? Or an 89? Do the numbers come from anywhere in particular? Also, I need to look up the clubs for certain players, like Korpela and Kiedrzynek.
Well, the pictures originated from here: https://bustedcoverage.com/2015/10/...evon-kerr-killing-it-for-ohio-state-buckeyes/ But now that you mention it, her Instagram page has over 10,000+ followers (our YouTube page only has 7,800). Jane Campbell's twitter page only has 1,000. Just 1/10 of what Kerr has on Instagram. And even the Stanford women's soccer page on Instagram only has 4,000+ followers. Kerr alone has that beat in a landslide, when comparing apples to apples (on Instagram vs. Stanford's whole team). So if you're looking for another rock star goalkeeper to eventually take over for Hope Solo, then Kerr is the one. It's important to uphold the tradition in not only goalkeeper excellence, but also popularity in the world. No female goalkeeper has ever been more popular than Hope Solo in the history of the world. The only upcoming goalkeeper that can reach those heights .... is Devon Kerr (and she is taller and has a higher vertical leap than Solo). For example, Colombia's 2nd goal against the USWNT to level the match at 2-2 in Rio, Kerr probably could have saved that with her taller and longer reach (plus leaping ability).
This makes zero sense and Kerr has made mistakes of her own Is there any reason Kerr hasn't started of OSU this year?
Korpela plays for Bayern Munich, the Polish lass for PSG, but refuses to play for her own NT. I'm pretty sure WWC Movement mean't to say Kerr is the 'hottest lookin' gk around! WWC; where the heck is Zhao Lima & Stephanie Labbe in your repot aire of videos? They surely come in 2nd & 3rd in good looks
Yes I am getting over a concussion received during training And hope to be on the field very soon Yes the video above was a very bad game we learn from bad games better we all have them and sometimes there is an underlying reason ie an injury and learning how to play through it And yes I was born in Canada and my mother is American and my grandfather a decorated US war hero . I am humbled that the US has provided me with a huge opportunity to study and play the sport I have passion for I am a very proud US citizen and look forward to developing my skills in the US
hotjam is one of the best posters in the history of this forum .... and a starting XI member on the all BigSoccer squad (I'm still at center back shutting down strikers in my path). But let's not cut Kerr's abilities short, and assume it has everything to do with golden fur and exterior appearance: She received the scholarship she did for a reason. She was a starting goalkeeper for her Canadian youth national team in a World Cup for a reason. US Soccer has had her in their sights in the youth development pool for a reason. She's projected to be the #2 overall goalkeeper taken in a future NWSL Draft for a reason. And the world's most unique women's soccer YouTube channel has her featured for a reason. Kerr was meant to be on the radar. She is that talented. Over 99% of starting goalkeepers in Division 1 do not have even 4 of those bullet-points up above. Over 95% of them don't even have 3 of those 5 bullet points. Over 90% don't even have 2 of the 5 from above. It's not like she's a journey-woman goalkeeper who only made it because she's tall and has blonde hair. She should be proud of her accomplishments, and has the explosive potential to achieve a lot more. I encourage everyone to watch her on the Big Ten Network over the rest of her collegiate career. Her team will probably be on at least twice per year. And she shut out National Champion Penn State in the only 45 minutes she played (2nd half) in this game: She also shut out Rutgers in this match:
thanks for the kind words, but it must be mentioned; she did not make the u20 WC squad. Also, she might have a hard time when playing in Canada ala Sydney Leroux did after she dumped that country for greener pastures of the US. But lately CA under Herdman's gotten rid of all their hottie players(Filigno, Kyle, Leon & and the one & only Sesselmann) so maybe they wouldn't mind loosing as some one as attractive as Kerr either?
Yeah, what's up with that? Is he trying to hide something? "Oh no, I didn't do anything. Here, I can prove it. I cut all of our most attractive players in terms of modeling" -John Herdman
Here is my 2017 list. Let me know what you think. 1. Hedvig Lindahl Date of Birth: 29 April 1983 Country: Sweden Height: 179 cm Weight: 74 kg Rating: 86 2. Karen Bardsley Date of Birth: 14 October 1984 Country: England Height: 182 cm Weight: 72 kg Rating: 83 3. Almuth Schult Date of Birth: 9 February 1991 Country: Germany Height: 180 cm Weight: 71 kg Rating: 82 5. Erin McLeod Date of Birth: 26 February 1983 Country: Canada Height: 173 cm Weight: 73 kg Rating: 81 6. Sari van Veenendaal Date of Birth: 3 April 1990 Country: Netherlands Height: 177 cm Weight: 68 kg Rating: 81 7. Laura Benkarth Date of Birth: 14 October 1992 Country: Germany Height: 173 cm Weight: 68 kg Rating: 80 8. Ashlyn Harris Date of Birth: 19 October 1985 Country: United States Height: 175 cm Weight: 60 kg Rating: 80 9. Sarah Bouhaddi Date of Birth: 17 October 1986 Country: France Height: 175 cm Weight: 68 kg Rating: 79 10. Adrianna Franch Date of Birth: 12 November 1990 Country: United States Height: 175 cm Weight: 68 kg Rating: 79 11. Bárbara Date of Birth: 4 July 1988 Country: Brazil Height: 171 cm Weight: 69 kg Rating: 78 12. Alyssa Naeher Date of Birth: 20 April 1988 Country: United States Height: 175 cm Weight: 60 kg Rating: 78 13. Nicole Barnhart Date of Birth: 10 October 1981 Country: United States Height: 177 cm Weight: 75 kg Rating: 77 14. Barbara Votikova Date of Birth: 13 September 1996 Country: Czech Republic Height: 177 cm Weight: 73 kg Rating: 77 15. Manuele Zinsberger Date of Birth: 19 October 1995 Country: Austria Height: 177 cm Weight: 72 kg Rating: 77
There are two GKs that I basically saw playing just at Euro 2017, but that I guess should be a little higher in your rankings: Netherlands' Van Veenendaal and especially Austria's Manuela Zinsberger (actually Van Veenendaal was quite good after Euro 2017 also; I didn't see Zinsberger play further to assess her state of form of late instead). In my opinion old, sloppy Hedvig Lindhal shouldn't be nowhere near first place. Lastly: in 2017 didn't Stéphanie Labbé start most of Canada's matches? (I guess McLeod is injured or something).
I agree on the performances of van Veenendaal and Zinsberger. I was a bit conservative concerning Zinsberger, since it was her first half year as first goalie, but now she has broken through at Bayern indeed. I just looked up her stats from this season (including EURO): 14 matches, 7 goals conceded, 8 cleansheets. That is indeed quite a world class performance. Has Lindahl fallen so fast? Labbe was quite a legend at the start of the season with FC Rosengard. She only played 2 'bad' matches and was then replaced by Musovic, who is also quite a honorable mention. I think McLeod is just semi-retired from those friendlies. Labbe is not near as good as McLeod.
I am probably biased, because she actually never seemed anything special to me. Was not actually comparing them: just noting that McLeod wasn't active anymore (or not at the moment, anyway), in my opinion.
Here's one made by statisticians... http://iffhs.de/the-worlds-best-woman-goalkeeper-2017-sarah-bouhaddi-stays-on-top/ From this list I would add Endler, Williams and Hjelmseth to yours...
