Murray takes RFC off the market...

    ANNOUNCEMENT BY MURRAY GROUP

On 26 October 2009, the principal shareholder of The Rangers Football Club plc (the "Club"), Murray International Holdings Limited ("MIH"), advised the board of directors of the Club that it was considering options regarding the controlling shareholding in the Club held by its subsidiary Murray MHL Limited. MIH also advised that this may or may not lead to it disposing of some or all of its majority stake in the Club to a third party.

MIH has received interest in its controlling stake from a number of parties. At this time, however, the board of MIH has not been able to secure an offer which it considers to be in the best interests of the Club, its shareholders and its fans.

Following on from the success of winning the 2009/10 SPL title and thereby securing participation in the group stages of the Champions League during 2010/11, the Club recently announced that the football management team had signed new contracts. At the same time the board of directors of the Club announced improvements in its financial position compared to the previous year stating:

"We believe the outcome of our recent positive discussions with the bank gives us a real platform for operational stability at the Club and we thank Lloyds for their support. We have a clear business plan in place and will continue to maximise efficiencies and endeavour to increase our non-playing income."

The board of directors of MIH therefore considers that the interests of stakeholders are presently best served by providing the football management team and board of directors with an opportunity to implement its business plan which is supported by Lloyds Banking Group. In these circumstances, MIH hereby announces that it is no longer actively marketing its controlling stake in the Club for sale.

    Sir David Murray

    Chairman

    Murray International Holdings Limited

    Thomson looks to be off:

Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson is to head for Teesside for talks with Middlesbrough after a transfer fee was agreed between the clubs.

As for Eagles, I don't know much about him other than he used to play for Man United, although that doesn't make him a superstar. Reading a few Burnley forums, opinions of him are split to say the least.

He at least seems to be and out-and-out winger, something we've been needing for years.

The Eagles deal seems to be on...

Rangers make £1.2m swoop for Burnley winger Chris Eagles

Burnley winger Chris Eagles is poised to become the first player bought by Rangers in two years after travelling to Glasgow for talks with the Scottish Premier League champions on Wednesday.

If it goes through then let's just hope he's a damn sight better than our previous signing from Burnley....

Bit late here, but just for the record Eagles decided to stay at Burnley.

In other news we're being linked with Australia's Brett Holman:

Rangers are chasing Australian World Cup star Brett Holman.

SportTimes can today reveal Ibrox manager Walter Smith is attempting to land the attacking midfielder on a season-long loan deal from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. The 26-year-old caught the eye at the World Cup Finals in South Africa when he scored Australia’s opening goal in their 1-1 draw with Ghana and then netted a stunning 25-yarder against Serbia.

Now Smith is hoping to convince the player to kick-start his club career by moving to the SPL champions after failing to command a regular starting slot in Holland.

Norwegian youth international Krister Wemberg has confirmed he is set to begin a week long trial at Rangers.

Krister Wemberg, 18, is a highly-rated defender for second division side FK Moss and has already spent time at Premier League outfits Everton and Fulham. With transfer activity limited at Ibrox due to financial constraints, the youngster fits the profile of players manager Walter Smith is set to target.

Speaking to Moss' official website, Wemberg couldn't hide his excitement about his trip to Glasgow.

"I will play games for the reserves and train every day with the first team during a week-long stay in Scotland," Wemberg said.

"My dream is to play abroad, I've never hid that."

Unfortunately no...we were supposed to be playing an Old Firm game at Fenway Park, and a game against FC Dallas IIRC...however the whole Boston Globe debacle put paid to that.

I've heard that too. Bit worried about the depth and quality of the squad for the new season as it stands. Although thats nothing new in the past few years and it's seen us ok, domestically at least.

25 plus goals a season will be hard to replace from Boyd alone.

All quiet with Thomson to boro?

    Here you go.

The SPL champions meet Queen of the South on 18 July before travelling to Australia to take part in the Sydney festival of football. Here, Walter Smith's men will come up against Blackburn Rovers, Sydney FC and AEK Athens. Upon their return, they will face Clyde and Glentoran away from home and will hope to have a sell-out crowd at Ibrox to face Newcastle United.

Rangers have been given the go-ahead to open talks with South African World Cup star Bongani Khumalo.

Khumalo’s club side Supersport United confirmed Gers have made an enquiry about the central defender.

The player, who has 14 caps for his country, has three years left on his existing contract.

However, Supersport have revealed they will not stand in the 23-year-old’s way if he wants to go to Ibrox.

Dado Prso: Make Nikica Jelavic a Rangers player now

Dado Prso wants Rangers to land Croatian countryman Nikica Jelavic – as he is custom-made for the SPL. The former fans’ hero knows all about Walter Smith’s pursuit of the Rapid Vienna frontman, who has pleaded with his club to sell him to the Ibrox side.

DUTCH trialist Nacer Barazite did his chances of winning a contract with Rangers no harm at all with a promising display in the 2-1 defeat to Glentoran.

The Arsenal winger joined the Light Blues on trial yesterday and played all bar the last 13 minutes of the friendly in Northern Ireland.

Nacer BaraziteHe showed some good touches and went close to scoring in both halves, giving coach Ian Durrant something to think about as he prepares to report back to manager Walter Smith.

It now remains to be seen if the 20-year-old will be offered a deal by the SPL champions - and if anything will be done in time for Saturday's league opener against Kilmarnock.

But he should fly back to Scotland tonight feeling he has done himself justice in front of a decent travelling support in Belfast.
