Well, him getting red-carded saved me the trouble of putting him on my ignore list so,... yaay, small victories! It would depend on the match. Nigeria v Bulgaria had a huge number of Nigerians like me and my family and it was arguable to say that Nigeria was heavily favored by the fans that day. It would have been even better in Houston though...
What teams outside of UEFA have qualified without winning a qualifying group? Has that ever happened in CAF or OFC? It's easiest to happen in CONMEBOL because one group qualifies at least 4 teams. Here are the 10 CONCACAF teams who have played in a World Cup and if they have ever won the final round of CONCACAF qualifying: Mexico: Yes USA: Yes Honduras: Yes Costa Rica: Yes El Salvador: Yes Cuba: Their only World Cup appearance happened because everybody else in CONCACAF withdrew Haiti: Yes Canada: Yes Jamaica: No Trinidad and Tobago: No
CONMEBOL used to have WC groups and not a single group before 1998. Eventhough Bolivia has never qualified by winning a WC group even with the smaller group format (in fact they have never qualified since they went to 1 large group). Ecuador has also qualified to 3 WC's but have never won the group (although they did it after 98).
It can't happen in CAF as currently constructed. Unless a current CAF side who has never been to a WC also hosts a WC, and any CAF side with the infrastructure to ever host a WC has already been to a WC, so no.
So technically in 2022 we will add Qatar to the list of teams that have never won a Qualifying Group to appear in the Final tournament. Unless something miraculous happens this cycle.
Somehow I doubt that but I guess there are different ways to count. Not too many South Africans can say that English is their mother tongue but I guess it might be a common 2nd or 3rd language among South African nationals.
That is a good one, i like that! Not so spectacular but still an interesting fact is: Saudi Arabia is the nation with the most world cup matches (13), that has yet to wait for a revenge match (to play the same opponent twice in their world cup history) Belgium Netherlands Morocco France Denmark South Africa Germany Ireland Cameroon Spain Ukraine Tunisia Current runners up in that competition are Tunisia and Iran with 12 matches always against different opponents.
sorry, sweden was missing only in the list makes it 13 and complete Gesendet von meinem SM-G935F mit Tapatalk

They didn't send any of their players, at all. It was the players respectful National teams, whom sent them, by calling them to their teams. All clubs did, was release players under FIFA's authority to do so, or else, clubs would get banned. (if it were strictly on clubs call, not a single player would get released) And btw, many of those players have played in many of those clubs as well, at diferent moments of time.
England: 8 times quarterfinals, 2 times semifinalists Italy: 9 times quarterfinals, 8 times semifinalists.
My point was that Italy made the semi-finals six more times than England despite making the quarterfinals only one more time than them. Anyway here is Germany's: 17 time quarterfinalists, 13 time semifinalists
They didn't play in 1950...weren't allowed to participate as FIFA had not approved their FA status until Sept 1950.
Yes, I knew that. It's one of the three times Germany did not make at least the quarterfinals of a WC.
Same with 1930. So in the times they did participate Germany failed to make the quarterfinals on just one occasion?! (1938) That's nuts! What about Brazil? Off the top of my head: 1930(?), 1934, 1966, 1990...
Right, my point is, you can't, "make at least the quarterfinals of a WC" the QF if you don't play, right?
