It is good to see USMNT players back in the MLS and building up the league. I can think of a number of Australian players who are either abroad in China, another average league, and/or are just not getting game time; those players need to come back to A-League IMO. Ehhh, you’ve got Giovinco at Toronto who’s been killing it since his arrival to MLS. He and Pirlo were both banished from Italy NT as a result of moving to MLS. Nothing I haven’t seen during this WC cycle. Our players waste too many opportunities and I am very concerned about a future without the last surviving member of the golden generation; Tim Cahill. He’s 37, a shadow of his old self, and yet we still don’t have a replacement for him. As a result, I wanted a 0-0 draw so I’m pleased with the result. Hopefully we’ll be fine come the second leg.
Regularly only 1, that’s Jackson Irvine. 1 or 2 others usually make the extended 30 man squad but get cut when it’s taken down to 23. Most of that under 20s team have either suffered bad injuries or went to Europe to be bench warmers & have come back to the A League.
The guy that scored for Australia, Brillante, is the guy in my avi he’s a regular for Sydney FC after an unsuccessful period in Italy, which came after the u-20 WC. Pretty much what willsant said; Irvine is a mainstay with the Socceroos. Maclaren and Geria get call ups but don’t necessarily play. Taggart seems to have lost his place with the Socceroos he doesn’t get called up these days. Most of the squad are playing regularly in the A-League today, which is great.
Yeah I know what you mean, it just bothered me that they don't show the same tenacity with the NT that they've show for their club.
The population inside the city limits is 400k but the metro area is 6 million. 9th largest in the country and larger than any Australian city and the entire population of El Salvador. I think the most surprising thing about AU is Atlanta is notorious for poor fan support. We'll see what the attendance is after the shine wears off.
Very well. This only puts Sydney to shame. A city of 5 million and their team Sydney FC have been unbeatable (only 3 losses since the 2016/17 season), yet their crowds are a laughing stock. Watching Sydney FC or Wellington Phoenix home games make me feel like I’m watching Alianza at the Estadio Cuscatlán. Hey, at least Allianz Stadium will be demolished and turned into a world class stadium like Parramatta Stadium @Willsant87
Who are you guys rooting for this upcoming WC? I know the Aussies will go with their team, what about the rest of y’all? @slaminsams @BKR inC @Grimmjow316
Japan pretty much. Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Some will call me a weeaboo.
Japan? Interesting. Family? I’m an Uruguay fan. Always liked the likes of Forlán, Carlos Sanchez, Godwin, Muslera, Suarez, Arévalo ríos, Lodeiro. Really excited with De la Cruz, Bentacur, Giménez, Lemus, and Nandez. Also I really like how they’ve always stuck with Tabarez. A good coach and they’ve always allowed him to continue. It’s why Uruguay has had success. They’ve always been just a step behind the likes of Argentina and Brazil and recently Chile, but they’re always a top team.
In case anyone cares. Former U.S. youth intl Junior Flores, a hard-luck @BVB II prospect from Manassas VA, sidelined again, this time at least 6 months with knee injury. #allmets— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) February 27, 2018
I've always said it. With most Salvadoran expats living in USA, our players going abroad to USA, and we gain a larger depth pool by scouting in USA, anything USA does to develop soccer in turn benefits El Salvador. Hell, even in Canada, the CPL has already given us two options (Marcus Velado-Tsegaye and Jose Hernandez). This new professional league MLS NEXT looks cool. Hopefully it does more to develop more Salvadoran-American players. MLS to launch new professional league in 2022
Ruben Israel has passed away. I liked him as a coach he tried to change the culture of our football by bringing in el Mago and helping our style of play. It was a shame he didn’t stay longer with our team. https://www.eltiempo.com/deportes/f...el-extecnico-de-millonarios-y-santa-fe-601032
QEPD Man he really was beaten down during his tenure here. The Feds being incompetent, the media with the pack mentality that if you go after one of them all of them will go after you, and finally the match fixers who made up a good chunk of the team. Even then he managed to get results when he needed them like the CR draw, it sucks that injures destroyed the Purdy/Turcios pairing they had so much potential. Even with what came out about Pacheco later on Ruben had that back line damn near at its best during his short run just RB was a problem.
