yeah....it was indeed a lot of fun ! We had 4 x Foursomes plus me, so I played with each group for at least 4 holes. Gave me a chance to enjoy the round with everyone, while Claire and I distributed beer and Scotch Eggs that I had baked and cut in half, the night before.
Oh mate....I wouldn't trade 5 minutes of 'corporate hospitality' for the wonderful times I've spent with good folk like Jeff, Terry, Fred, Judy, Griff and more. Even if I were ever offered it, I would rather be with them at the match & the pub before & after.
Really great interview with the Romford Pele: http://www.theguardian.com/football/video/2015/apr/09/ray-parlour-video-interview-arsenal
Couldn't find a good place to post this, but... Just noticed that 3 of our last 5 matches are going to be played on weekdays. It didn't help that TV in the UK forced 2 of our weekend matches to be moved to Monday night.
Slightly AFC related, Guinness have lodged a £135m bid for the Premier League naming rights for three years.
That actually seems rather cheap. Alcohol or technology brands make sense though as a global sponsor. Barclay...not so much.
And that in nutshell is why I have never called our home "Emirates" or this league "BPL" or "Barclays". It's always been just "EPL" or "the Prem" for me. So are all the others really going to start calling it the GPL?? Ugh. Even with Guinness being my favorite beer... unless they hire me as a commentator and make me sign a contract, you ain't gonna see me utter that brand name when talking about my favorite league.
Apparently the Premier League clubs have vetoed Guinness as a lead sponsor, as most of them have individual sponsorship deals with other lager/alcohol brands at their respective stadiums. Get ready for the McDonalds Super Premier League, coming soon...
No one says "Barclays Premier League" apart from official match commentary, so I wouldn't expect "Guinness Premier League" to all of a sudden catch on -- it will still be the EPL to fans. Stadiums are trickier, because for most there's no other way to describe them. I supposed you could say "Ashburton Grove" for us, but still.
I wish that was true but I hear plenty of regular people and TV analysts refer to it as BPL. I would say that 10 years ago you would've been right that "EPL" was almost exclusively the term used. But since then I've noticed things slipping slowly towards "BPL". With any luck "GPL" will just jolt people back to using "EPL". As for the stadium, indeed what I call it mostly is "The Grove" or "Ashburton Grove" or occassionally even "Arsenal Stadium". I'm in an even smaller minority in refusing to say "Emirates" than I am in refusing to say "BPL". But I'm happy and comfortable in my minority.
I love the way Ox is such a general sports enthusiast & all around athlete. I think I remember seeing him playing American Football with a visiting NFL team at Colney.
THIS CLOWN HURT US EARLY IN THE SEASON....LET NOT FORGET THAT! IF OSPINA HAD STARTED PERHAPS WE COULD BE MAKING JOSEEEE CRY RIGHT NOW!
Our issues were far more than just GKs. We suffered from injuries, failure to have defensive depth, and not having a proper DM shielding us. Not to mention, our attack didn't really click before Cazorla fully shifted to CM, and Ozil/Giroud returned from injury. Sanchez had to carry us for quite a while.
We were also forced to start Chambers a TON in the first few months of the season. Had he been any good, we never would have discovered how ready Bellerin was to be our starting right back. Had Arteta and Flamini stayed healthy, we might still be leaking goals, dropping points and screaming for a defensive mid rather than enjoying the emergence of Francis Coquelin and 3rd place. Hmmmm. . .
Wow u dont half find some odd ones Maui. A bunch of old geezers playing on a pitch thAt'd fit inside centre court. And a crowd that sounded a bit like that too. But very nice to see them all. Merson looking 8mos preggers (is he. Ack on the juice?) but still has some skill! Is hamilton a bonafide goonah?
He most certainly is mate...that's one of the reasons he's been my favourite driver since before he won his first F.1 World Championship. Also because he was born & grew up about 10 miles from where I used to live. I'm rather proud to say that of the 2.75 million followers he has on Twitter, I'm one of less than 600 that he follows and I've had a few messages from him. I was trackside when he won U.S. Grand Prix in 2012 & 2014 I don't think he had any trouble spotting me & the Arsenal & Hawaiian flags as the crowd rushed to the podium in 2014 In 2012, I found myself sharing a table with Lupe Fiasco (and a few bodyguards) who is a huge Lewis fan, but alas, a Spurs fan. I like to think that he was waving to us on victory lap. In 2014, I wanted a good view of pit lane and Turn One for race day, so I got to the track before sunrise to be first in line and stake my claim in the hope that Lewis would see The Arsenal flag on the drivers parade
Guys often there is talk of us being able to mount a serious league challenge with less injuries and 3 really good signings. This I generally agree with. But how many here trust AW to win us the UCL? I don't- he keeps getting outfoxed by both top and mediocre coaches e.g. Monaco this year.
