True, true. In fact that was the state of Arsenal when I hooked up with them in the mid-70's.

Indeed. And we should all be proud of that. Even a bit more than Wenger's pride in 19 straight years of CL qualification. ;)

Just heard Peter Drury on the Arsenal Podcast recounting his joy at being at Highbury in 1997 when Ian Wright broke the club's goalscoring record. I like Drury a lot, but he seemed to have missed one of the essential elements of that day. When Wrighty scored his first goal #178 he pulled up his top to reveal a Nike logo and "179 - Just Done It!". Except that of course that was premature. Luckily he corrected his error by scoring a 2nd that day, at which point the undershirt was accurate. Everything about that day was classic Wrighty.

Just saw an Arsenal.com news blurb that Heather O'Reilly is leaving the club after 18 months. Hmm, I wonder what the back story of that is. Unless she's hanging up her boots at 33, I wonder who wasn't happy with whom or what?

Could just be the end of her contract.

New schedule is out. Man City and Chelski first two games. Yikes. Be lucky to have more than 3 points by the end of August.

Sometimes it’s good to get the hard games out the way early and Chelsea are shit

Yeah, right now Chelsea are in a state of flux. They can't really fire Conte without having to eat the contract and Sarri's locked to Napoli even though the chairman and Sarri can't stand to look at each other.

So much for an easing-in period for Emery. It'll be interesting how long a fuse he gets from the board and the "faithful" if results aren't going our way.

All I need to see is a proper direction. The last few years of Wenger felt rudderless.

If we get on the team in August/September, we're a bunch of ingrates.

At least wait until January before making judgments about this team.

I'm excited guys bring on city n blues. All we need is some team defence + tactics to compete vs the big boys. Def n tactics is something AW knew Nothing of.

Heads-up about the latest Arsecast which is a nice interview of Philippe Senderos.
    https://arseblog.com/2018/07/episode-481-philippe-senderos/

He was really thoughtful, articulate and respectful. Seems a really good person. And his English was consistently, reliably fluent. If only his football had been such when he was with us, I might've liked him a bit more. Or perhaps if I'd heard interviews like this, while he was a Gunner, I would've cut him a bit more slack as well. ;)

He did allude to the fact that his propensity towards injuries did limit his career/advancement.

p.s. I wish there'd been more discussion about his current MLS phase, but I suspect Andrew Mangin doesn't really think that's a very legit league so he glossed over it, focusing all on his past, with us and Milan.

Geraint Thomas is a Gooner. Just learned this today.

Maybe his triumph will bring us luck this season. :D

For reals, because a CEO's job is so far removed from the actual football that there's no reason to believe that Wenger would be good at it, so Wenger would be a bad hire for that reason alone.

We also fired Wenger (let's call it what it is) less than four months ago.

In all honesty Wenger might not be the worst idea there. MLS is a totally different animal than europe and he does have an economics degree if I remember correctly. However Wengers personality and history for taking over things is a huge risk. Not to mention his all but compromising nature.

There's a difference between being manager of a football club and running the entire organization - there's nothing to suggest Wenger knows anything about the rest, and an Econ degree 45 years ago doesn't move the needle at all.

Plus, the environment would necessarily be toxic.
