Yeah, they're not sitting around talking about the economy as to why Trump won. That stuff is an afterthought ... they all have jobs anyway.

Twenty years ago, I would have watched The Last Jedi, noticed that heroes were not white men (except for Oscar Isaac, who looks white to me but I guess is regarded as an untrustworthy ethnic), and shrugged. This year, I watched it and never noticed. It was only when I went online after seeing the movie that the casting was a thing.

The incident occurred at the Southfield, Michigan store location on May 22. Davis says two loss prevention officers racially profiled her. The alleged victim claims one officer approached her as she left the store, he accused her of stealing a bikini. She was placed in handcuffs and taken to the back room of the discount store. It was there she alleges that she was forced to lift up her shirt and pull down her pants to reveal herself to the two men, in order to prove she was not hiding the bathing suit.

“At first I was in shock, of course, and it was just very humiliating. I felt degraded. It was sad. I was very upset,” Davis told Action News.

Since the incident, Target has terminated one of the employees involved in the encounter. The company has also released a statement apologizing: derp derp derp

Too late. Vet your pigs next time.

Maybe it's because I'm a POC and politically aware but I do notice the increase in nonwhites and women in leading roles. And yes, it does seem a bit... odd.

But that says more about the way we've been socialized than anything else. We're so conditioned to seeing heroes look one way that anything else throws us off. Some see this as a good way, others as a terrible affront to decency, reality, or some sort of natural order.

Been thinking about it just the same. It is not economic, it is cultural. It is NIMBY, only socially, not nuclear.

I look at like this. I, too, notice non-White males in leading roles. But I also do not make a big deal about it. And, actually, in The Force Awakens, I had two thoughts. First, as the Rey was a female, I thought "Okay, that is bound to happen. How does she handle it compared to Luke?" As for Finn, my reaction was "Okay, cool, but not realistic. No way the Empire would have (manufacture) a POC."

Some nerd told me that the Empire was running out of clones and opening the ranks to regular mercenaries.

It makes sense seeing how by the time of The Force Awaken the Empire was no more.

I think the story is that Finn was "recruited" into the ranks as a child.

No, it stands for Free For All.
Enjoyable as it can be to converse about various topics here, I bet most P&CEers haven't ever even seen a real garden. Couldn't raise dandelions...

Your post was a semi-near quote of his (Ernest Bramah, author of the "Kai-Lung" books) most famous line:

“However entrancing it is to wander unchecked through a garden of bright images, are we not enticing your mind from another subject of almost equal importance?”

I put some greens in my stir-fry earlier this week.

That's pretty much the only gardening I do.

Been picking ripe tomatoes for 3 wks and all 6 fruit trees are loaded. Spaghetti squash plant [one] has taken over our 20' x 4' raised bed that we have severely trimmed back 3 times so it doesn't strangle the tomatoes! :coffee:
