Completely different defenders tbh. Baresi had better technique on the ball and could play as a sweeper.

I didn't call him a thug. I called him a twat. Did you see Portugal's last group game, where some guy on the other team patted him on the shoulder, and he dropped to ground, writhing for all he's worth.

Ronaldo deserved the best farewell He chose one by winning the hearts of his fans and opponents. He's a true legend

True, but both are/were great leaders and had balls of steel.

By walking off Cavani so he could start the game again faster?

    LOL.

If you cede almost 70% possession and twenty shots and 12 corners to a team with Ronaldo on it you are asking for trouble. Heck, they needed a miss from inside 12 yards on an open net to avoid extra time

Uruguay played a foolish game and got very, very lucky

Has Uruguay ever lost a world cup match with Suarez in the team?

Lol thats so funny and true. Even the commentators believed Cristiano's altruism as part of a non existent charitable nature as opposed to self preservation.

Two amazing matches between European and South American teams. Four teams with plenty of brilliance but also all with some flaws. The two best players of our generation were well controlled and are out of the tournament. I think the two better teams got through.

I appreciated how even in the heat of battle, and with his team behind, Ronaldo took the time to show his respect for Cavani. Some may see it as a cynical move, but it felt genuine to me. There is mutual respect between those two.

Until Cavani was taken out, Uruguay were in complete control, dominating the match, not in terms of possession, but how the game was proceeding and looked more likely to score. Once Cavani left the field injured, Uruguay's attack/counterattack lost its bite and they basically bunkered. Even then, Portugal didn't have but 1-2 chances all game. In fact, other than their goal and one other chance, everything else that might have ended up in the net would have ended up in Portugal's net.

Not sure how serious cavani injury is but obviously a bit of a step down people should read up on the seasons both stuani and maxi gomez had, especially the latter. They can come in and score

So let just say France beat Uruguay (I'm all for Uruguay though), and advance.

Who here think France can beat Croatia? If it come down to that bracket.

Oscar Tabarez has been Uruguay manager since 2006 and he has managed to stay relevant & make his team relevant as well

I thought they were very much challenging Uruguay in the 2nd half, very much like they did in the first 10-15 of the match. Lots of dangerous balls in the middle, quite a few runs down the wings, at least 2 opportunities to score while the keeper was out of position. It was not shot after shot after shot, but it was constantly threatening. Uruguay held firm, and I thought did a good job, and it was not easy.
the 4th gave 4 minutes, plus the injury/stoppage. I thought it should have been an extra minutes, not two extra minute

Haha Obviously this is the first time you've seen Uruguay play ,this is what they do best, they don't let you play your game, doesn't matter if you have full possession for most of the game,if they score on you first you will always be the desperate one.tjey know how to control the game to their advantage,if you have watched them in South American qualifiers, you would know this.

Even if they don’t. Frankly I’d say only Lukaku and Diego Costa stand much chance of catching Kane.

It would be awesome if Brazil faces Uruguay in the semis.

Would love to see a Belgium v Croatia final - two teams who have never won it before, buy my gut says it's going to be Brazil vs Spain.

First Egypt, then Russia, now Portugal... Isn't it a remarkable coincidence that all these teams have a terrible game against Uruguay?
