I think you're too easy on what a world class or top side is. Germany, Spain, Argentina maybe France are top sides. Teams that have various world class players on their teams. Mexico doesn't have a single player playing to a top club at the moment so I definitely don't rate them as world class
http://fusion.net/story/102600/american-outlaws-us-soccer-supporters-group-growing-pains/ I forgot the beaner and ******** chants and the INS chants as well. Please let your daughter know about the racist USMNT fans
At least Croatia have Rakitic and Modric, none of those teams you mentioned have players of that calibre. But yeh Croatia is a good side but not world class
Guys, this is a good thread. I haven't been on Big Soccer for around a year. I knew a thread about this match would be entertaining.
A couple of individuals whom the fan organization take action against is pretty different from an entire stadium organized into homophobic chants at once
Croatia finished 3D twenty year ago and since have gotten squashed at the group stage, losing to Mexico twice. Mexico pretty much always gets out of its group and mostly the US does also. Both have better records in recent times than Croatia.
This is the one thing that commentators have always said about playing Mexico in front of their own fans... it can be a very double-edged sword if their opponents can do something early. Mexican fans will turn on their team if they're playing anyone else but the US in an instant. Mexico can be unbeatable in front of their own fans at times, but if things start going south, they'll roll over and cover their heads to avoid the beating that their fans will begin giving them.
Mexico's a very good and talented side, and I get what you're trying to state here, just be careful with how you use "World Class" because it means alot of different things to different people. I prefer to use elite and only a few nations are on that list,... the 7 sides who have actually won a World Cup (Uruguay is here and there at times especially in the 90's when they barely existed and England isn't really in that company anymore), Netherlands, Belgium and Columbia besides those. That's about it, and primarily because they have shown the ability to compete on a level at international competitions that other countries on the up lack. They have players who can single-handedly change a match, not once, but several times over. For a US example Dempsey, or Donovan in his prime, could make dangerous plays happen about 4 or 5 times a match. But players like Messi, Alexis Sanchez, or Suarez can do so every 5 minutes of a match. That's usually enough to make the difference unless a defence plays tremendously. I think this is why the US is usually less likely to suffer from defeats like this than Mexico. The US under Klinnsmann has shown more ability to go forward with intent than before but they still basically play to their strengths which allow them to play as more than the sum of their parts. They defend as a team and can frustrate better player. Mexico is more likely to try to play a team like Chile straight. The idea of ceding possession to their opponents as a tactic (even better opponents) is simply foreign to them. Perhaps this is a side-effect of playing in CONCACAF where they're the best technical side. The US might lose, but losing like this is unlikely (ready to take that all back after Sunday if necessary...). The US makes you earn your goals and keeps you honest with quick counters. Pressing forward against the US carries risks that they exploit with speed and decisive passing on the counterattacks.
I think that this is why I'm all for this joint tournament to continue going forward. We (US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and even Honduras, Jamaica, etc) can learn alot by playing CONMEBOL on a regular basis and have already shown, despite this loss, that we can bring alot of entertainment to the spectacle. Granted, this was in US/Mexico territory and playing in South America will be much different, but that helps us as well. If we want to win a World Cup, who knows when it will be in the US or even Mexico again.
I just made 4 posts and typed about alot of different things. It would be helpful if you would quote which post (or individual statement) you're responding to...
Yea , we can call comebolasConCaca-f....... Ok it's a joke guys. But seriously, Argentina should win pretty easy.
2nd or 3rd place..it does not really matter its still not first if it makes you feel better this happened in 1997 - SF
Was a wild time at Levi's. First the Toyota entrance was blocked off for only will call leading to a glut at the other gates before kickoff. Took about an hour to get in from VIP parking while it only took 10 min for the other games. People were going ballistic trying to get through the metal detectors as they could see the anthems and kick off on the screens. The Levi's gate person decided to elbow me in the ribs multiple times because he felt I was pushing... But it was the flood of humanity pushing me forward. I think he felt concern for the light skinned lady next to me lol who was complaining she was getting pushed. But he let me through with painful ribs once it was apparent my Non-gangsta English was not a threat. Still another glut at the ticket checker as people jostled to get in after kickoff. The early goal quieted the crowd. But the crowd roared back with Mexico cheers. However another goal came right before half time which put a somber mood into the crowd. The dj tried to pump up the crowd ignoring the cloud that had come over the 70000+ majority Mexican fans. Dj rating social awareness -7/10 lol. The new half brought the crowd back to life if only temporarily.
The early 2nd half goal by chile led to beverages being hurled at them as they celebrated in the corner. Fights started breaking out. The 4th goal was the funniest (yes it's a word). bravo ran to the corner flag to taunt the Mexican crowd which was greeted with about a dozen flying beverages. The fifth goal really broke the camel's back as my seat neighbor took off his Mexico jersey and threw it down at his seat. It's fun sitting behind the goal. Beverages started flying down from the 2nd level. People were getting escorted out. There was more attention being paid to the individual fights happening with the occasional cheer for the successful actions of the event staff and security pulling the reactionary soccer mom out for defending herself with likewise beer throwing. I think the 6 th goal was a thing of beauty as Alexis dribbled through the Mexican defense like maradona did to the English in 86. I think somewhere after this point or the 7th goal the crowd started to aim it's cheers at Mexico. Ole's and P___ goal kick chants were reserved for the members of el tri. Despite all of this though many Mexican fans clapped for the Chilean national team as they exited the field ala the Brazilian fans following the 7-1 nightmare in Belo Horizonte 2 years earlier. And I thought I would never see a worse game in person.
