PBP: /Pulisic: Dortmund vs Benfica Friendly

Benfica attacking more at the start. They have a qualifying Champions game against Fenerbahçe in a couple of weeks, Dortmund won't play a meaningful game until the start of the season.

lol gotze fires it at pulisic 100 mph from 15 feet away and somehow Pulisic controls and then nobody wants to play combo with him in the box and his run goes no where.

I don't get why BvB won't get a top coach. Favre is decent but his greatest achievement was qualifying Nice to the Champions, plus a couple of Swiss Cups.

Well, there goes that stat about CP being involved in every preseason goal

 

One. The first assist was Larsen's. Goetze got the secondary assist in that one.

Second goal was Goetze's assist but Philipp was offside and should not have counted.

Gedson (#83 for Benfica) is the 19 year old who beat out Keaton Parks for this spot, and in my opinion, he's hurting the midfield by venturing too far forward... a common complaint against him on Benfica B was that he was too selfish with his positioning and on-the-ball moves.

But also I'm just biased towards Keaton so...

 

No, you're right. Both goals originated from Fernandes not being where he was supposed to be.

 

Since Dortmund found the hole in Benfica's right side, all their interesting attacking play is happening on their left, opposite Puli who's not involved at this point.

 

The Spaniard Grimaldo has done a good job taking Puli out of the game so far. Because of Christian's speed he marks him from about four yards behind, and it's working.

 

Some pretty hard play for a friendly.

 

Finally a very good play by Puli who took out Fejsa from the center, ran to the corner and sent in a very dangerous cross. Superb ball control.

Benfica have a CL qualifier in about 2 weeks against Fener, so they're taking this a bit more seriously. Dortmund won't play a competitive game until their first round cup match on August 20th.
