Over-dribbling by Pulisic. He needs to pass earlier on back to back plays. On one he did a good job of getting himself out of trouble, only to go back in. He should have just crossed with his left when he got an edge. Then on the subsequent chance he ultimately got it to Yarmy, but when he was covered. There was an immediate pass to Aubama to put him in. I think this is a general problem Pulisic has, but maybe it's exacerbated now by the lack of passing from his teammates. Yarmy doing the same thing on the other side.
Pulisic with some sick skill and ball control while being harried by three defenders. Followed by an attack where he gifts Yarmo the ball in the opposing box, only for Yarmo to completely ruin it and have a fit on the ground. He knows how bad he is playing.
Thats the problem with playing inverted wingers. You play Left footed Yarmo and he wants to shoot on his left foot. So he takes a touch to cut back instead of just putting his laces through it with his right.
The first one he needed to dink it inside to a teammate when getting double teamed wide, going away from goal. On the second the angles weren't great and if Yarmo had shot early or played a simple square that's a great chance.
The fact that Yarmy could have done better is really besides the point... Correct option there would have been an early ball to Aubama before the defense reacts. And he's either in 1 v. 1 at an angle, or has ample opportunity to sidestep the scrambling defender. An unbiased viewpoint says Pulisic should improve not taking extra touches on the ball.
Yarmo's style just doesn't seem to fit his teammates. He's not very fast, and too dependent on some trick dribbling move to create space to operate.
Yarmo makes Jmo smooth look absolutely ambipedal. I know there are some mostly one footed bigtime players, but damn this guy only has one leg.
Perhaps. He had a few options. In hindsight Yarmo pass was the wrong one, but if Yarmo first times it into the net we are all celebrating.
First one maybe a little square was there, but I think he did a good job winning the ball back. Then when he has the initial crossing opportunity when he's trapped he just needs to send it to the middle of the box. Instead he chose to try to beat them again against all odds. Second one, if you have players well ahead of you on the break, you need to get them the ball quickly before the defense can get set. It's what Lonzo Ball does so well for the Lakers but often doesn't get credit for in the form of an assist.
You talking about the Yarmo non-shot? There was nothing different he could have done there to improve that chance. He played it exactly when he should have and on a plate for Yarmo.
Dortmund can still get all three and it might be as simple as swapping Puli and Yarmo. They have to take their chances in the second half.
You're viewing that myopically or with rose-colored glasses. I watched from when he received the ball and he had Aubama on the diagonal waiting for the early pass. Instead he dribbled for a long time toward them and brought a virtually set defense with him (nothing moves faster than the ball). The initial shot wasn't on for Yarmy. He could have tried a quick move and pulled the trigger, but he had no advantage at that point. Pulisic didn't totally tank the play, but he didn't further it either relative to the average BL player let alone for BVB.
That's not an argument. He's not the one who had beef, and just because he ultimately got a chance he could have done better on, doesn't mean it shouldn't have been a better opportunity for the team.
the three players were parked up in front of him with one player each. He did what you are taught to do, take the space in front of you until one of the defenders steps to you. If Pulisic would have dribbled any closer it would have been his shot to take but right before Yarmos man left him and stepped to auba. There was nothing wrong with playing in Yarmo there. That is a goal 9/10 times. Playing it early? who knows what happens in the 40 yards to the goal.
