PSV Eindhoven have approached Nagoya Grampus Eight coach Sef Vergoossen to take charge of the club until the end of the season – when Huub Stevens is expected to arrive.

The Dutch giants have been seeking to appoint a new manager after Ronald Koeman’s departure to Valencia and have failed with bids to bring in former Tottenham boss Martin Jol and Fred Rutten of FC Twente.

It has now emerged that PSV have approached former Roda JC and Racing Genk boss Vergoossen as they look to steady the ship ahead of Stevens’ possible arrival in the summer from Hamburg.

However, Vergoossen’s contract currently runs until January at Grampus Eight, and Arsene Wenger’s former club are believed to be reluctant to let their manager leave at present.

Speaking to Limburgs Dagblad on Wednesday, Vergoossen revealed: “Nagoya don’t like it but I am thinking about it.

“I will wait patiently for their decision because I don’t want to leave here on bad terms.”
