Solid points. My reply to them: I don't want players taking risks right now. It is pre-season and it's all about fitness, physical and mental, nothing more. An injury is not worth whatever goal might have been scored or 50/50 ball won. We did look rigid, but part of that is what comes with the bargain with Mourinho and part of that is a function of integrating young players, who need to start from the ground up before being unleashed. This is ground up time. Lowly competition and the weather condition was such such that there had to be water breaks. The better way to look at the match is an analysis of individual performances, rather than the team performance. Sanchez and Pereira earned high marks, but Martial is a serious concern. Martial's energy level makes Berbatov look like Giggs. If he can't, or won't, put in more effort we might as well send him back to France where he can enjoy the finer things in life.
Really not much to see in terms of highlights. And with the exception of AP, this has been kind of a missed opportunities from guys who most of them are/will be on the fringes of the first team once the season starts. We should be hardly surprised then when he keeps on going on and on about the guys who are not there/available. And we can expect him to rely heavily on them once the season starts. Early in preseason still, but those guys in the group need to step it up a little more now.
It's a bunch of kids and misfits being told to win a game against much more match-fit sides by playing slowly and unimaginatively, only ever committing a couple of players forward yet still being exposed at will by quick passing.
It's not just about the game. Jose has been depressing since returning for preseason. The fans may not be his top priority, but he should still do and say things to inspire confidence. After all the negativity he has been spouting, what do you expect?
