The one within the section? Yeah, that just takes time to learn what the group as a whole is comfortable with. Us in Dallas, we still struggle with it from time to time and this is our tenth year at it. Mostly, you get the chant leaders and the drum leaders to get on the same page about what to start (alternating usually works pretty well).
For us at the club level, we just look around, make eye contact and we kinda know what needs to be sung. At the national team level, the understanding occurs, but the pool of songs is smaller, much smaller. It's because we sing tunes that people recognize and go from there. Simple stuff really, no need to complicate things at all.
