Only because of more games played. In terms of points per match, Boca is #1. :coffee:

The reason River played more matches is because often times the Torneo Nacional was a knock out tournament, with River normally reaching the latter stages and boca being eliminated in the group stage. So... I don't really know why you're so proud of that fact.

Well, also River is a bit older which led to them playing 5-6 years in the Primera division before Boca got started. Not sure how many matches they played per season back then but that could account for 100 to 120 more games roughly speaking.
OTOH, this was partly offset from River missing 38 Primera games due to being relegated recently. :D

Yeah, I guess Tigre are headed for Primera "B". Seven matches left, 10 points behind - could be more after tonight.

Late comeback for Defensa y Justicia last night means there is a tie at the top of the table.

Here are the league positions of the top 2's remaining opponents. Racing with a easier schedule on paper as they play a lower ranked team every remaining week except this weekend. Although they do have to play Independiente:
    Racing: ........................10, 8 (CAI), 16, 18, 25, 19, DyJ
    Defensa y Justicia: .... 21, 3 (Boca), 9, 14, 23 ,11, Racing

Would be cool to see DyJ pull it off. Well, besides Boca somehow closing a 10 point gap of course, lol.

Yeah, 10 points might be possible if chasing one team. But chasing 2 teams is impossible! Priority for Boca has to be finishing top 4 since 5th place is only 1 point away.

It’s certainly not impossible, especially considering how Boca has a pending suspended game. They could cut the difference to 7 points by winning that game, and after that there are another 7 games left.

Racing and Defensa still have to face each other too, so there will be some lost points there as well. The difference can now be potentially 5 points.

After that Racing has to play the clasico vs Independiente, and also a few tough road games — more potential lost points. As for Defensa, they’ve been winning the last several games in the last minute, and you can’t rely on that luck forever. Plus, they still have to play Boca, another chance for the bosteros to cut the difference.

Then on top of all this you have to consider how both Racing and DyJ will begin playing the Sudamericana this week, so then that might make them lose a few other points in the long run (especially in Defensa’s case, due to a more limited squad).

I wouldn’t necessarily count on Boca to win the title, but it’d be far from a miracle if they did. Racing showed their weaknesses on Sunday and DyJ —while putting on a fantastic campaign— aren’t Barcelona. Points will be dropped in the long run, and as Boca showed us with their 2006 chokejob, a comfortable point cushion doesn’t always guarantee a title at the end of the season.
