27 rounds is short. But next year is world cup and plan is Championship finish in beginig of May.
The AFA wants to reduce the number of teams to 22, reducing each year by 2.Then would start a 42-match championship. And of course the start of the championship was postponed for 27.o8 and the schedule was changed.://www.ole.com.ar/futbol-primera/Nuevo_fixture_0_1844815583.htm

I just saw the brand "Superliga" yesterday on the wiki for the Argentine system (?). Is that just the new branding for the top league now?

"Superliga" is not just new brending .This is a new way of distributing money from tv . There are three levels of distribution.
Boca and Riber are first. Independiente, Racing, San Lorenzo y Vélez are second.Other teams are the third level. The first ones get the most.

Noted. So what happens when the first division is down to 26 teams? Will they need to go back to two divisions of 13 teams each:
    - play everyone in your own division twice = 24 games
    - play everyone in the other division once = 13 games
    - play one 'rival' in the other division one more time = 1 game
    - TOTAL = 38 games.
    ?

You're talking about a league that decided the 2017/18 season schedule just a week or two before its due to commence.. Don't expect them to have a long term plan for upcoming seasons.

Today begins a new season. The first match is Tigre-Velez.Velez, who will fight to stay, has several talented players, and the most interesting of them is an eighteen-year-old Maxi Romero.

I know Maxi Romero was a crack in Football Manager. Tell me a little about his game.

Who else are you eyeing in Velez?

I wish I could be more pumped for the start of the season... But just 27 matches and just one superclasico over the next 10 months makes me think this will be the worst championship in history, and I think its hard to disagree with that.

Imagine if in Spain they just said, you know we have this fantastic rivalry, you know what would be good? If Real Madrid and Barcelona only play once in a whole year. That would just be awesome...

Thats basically what the AFA did with this "Superliga"

    LOL

since Boca couldn't manage to clinch a deal with Milan for Gomez, AFA just added an additional week for negotiations, even though the window closed.

    Incredible.. AFAno

Lol AFA is worse than Italian football and I love both leagues. The corruption in both is mind boggling.

#1 v #2 to play in the next round, after the international break. Boca v Talleres.

Actually Boca and Talleres play almost the same opponents for the rest of the season. Only difference is Boca plays Defensa y Justicia and Talleras play 28th place Olimpo. Both teams have matches against the following 5 teams:
    Independiente
    Huracan
    Gimnasia LP
    Newells Old Boys
    Union
