Actually, Mexico does have an extradition treaty with us, so you're not safe there. The Bahamas, on the other hand, does not have an extradition treaty with the US, but they will still extradite people if you piss them off. What I'm actually concerned about is that our last two tune-up games before the season are against a pair of USL sides. I'd like to see us play a tougher opponent for the last pre-season match. We should try to schedule a game against either a Mexican team or some club from Central America. Of course, they're in season now, so that would probably be tough. But we could arrange for a last match against another MLS side. Maybe some team from the Eastern Conference? Someone we won't play this season? That might work well for both teams. Go Quakes!! The Quakes play Columbus Crew today. Anyone know any details about it? What time? Stream?, Starting Lineup?
#Quakes74 lineup for the first preseason game of 2020 vs. @ColumbusCrewSC:Bersano; Bell, Beason, Jungwirth, Marie; Skahan, Calvillo, Fuentes, Haji; Cowell, Wondolowski pic.twitter.com/ozBD7BkeTP— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) February 3, 2020
Click the tweet for updates on the game. The Quakes are leading 1:0. Goal by skahan (who’s that? Oh yeah the second round draft pick).
Reading the rest of the highlights reminds me so much of how our 2019 season went. Lots of chances but lots of crossbars and gk saves. Statistically we’re supposed to win those games but somehow we just don’t. Hopefully luck will be on our side when the regular season starts.
We might just have to accept the fact he doesn’t score very often. 115’: Vako dribbles past multiple defenders before sending a through ball to Espinoza. The Argentine calmly brings it down and curls the ball with the outside of his right foot, but narrowly misses wide. #Quakes74— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) February 3, 2020
from the mls website. "... Fanendo Adi scored his first goal since he was claimed off waivers and Pedro Santos gave Columbus Crew SC the lead for good in a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Monday in Cancun, Mexico. Jack Skahan, the 27th overall selection in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, gave the Quakes an early in the scheduled 120-minute affair. The latter scorers for Columbus in the closed-door affair weren't immediately known. Of note, MLS all-time leading goal scorer Chris Wondolowski was one of only a few familiar faces in Matias Almeyda's starting XI, with most of last year's regulars entering at the 61st minute. By contrast, Crew SC boss Caleb Porter started many of his presumed opening day XI. San Jose Earthquakes starting XI (4-4-2): Matt Bersano - Jon Bell (Jacob Akanyirige 51'), Tanner Beason, Florian Jungwirth, Paul Marie - Jack Skahan, Eric Calvillo, Gilbert Fuentes, Siad Haji - Cade Cowell, Chris Wondolowski San Jose Earthquakes 61' (4-4-2): JT Marcinkowski - Nick Lima, Oswaldo Alanis, Guram Kashia, Tommy Thompson - Vako, Luis Felipe, Magnus Eriksson, Cristian Espinoza - Danny Hoesen, Andy Rios "
We'd have to ask Christopher & Isaac, the winners of the preseason giveaway trip to Cancún? Regardless, I was disappointed the lineup w/more starters (including Alanis) gave up 2 goals in the last two periods, just like the first group in the first two periods, presumably against the Crew's subs.
No idea. But thanks for asking. I noticed that, but forgot to ask. Maybe this guy? https://umbcretrievers.com/sports/msoc/2018-19/bios/bell_jon_qfqw That page is way out of date. Last news is 2018. Oh yeah, we drafted him. D’oh! He was our third pick. Hopefully, he can contribute, if not this season, then next. GO Quakes!! - Mark
Jimmy Garrapolo threw interceptions on five consecutive passes in the preseason, and then took his team to the Super Bowl. (I'm sure Matias mentioned this in his post-scrimmage address in Cancun, since he recognizes how important it is to study the NFL. ). https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/4...-garoppolo-throws-five-straight-interceptions
The few games that I watched they didn't let Garrapolo throw many passes though. They seemed to run the ball mostly. I suspect Espinoza won't score a lot but he will have a lot of assists. Hopefully he scores more than two this year, but he seems like a Urena type guy - great player just doesn't score much. Too bad for Urena he's a striker and not scoring is much more of a problem for him than it is for Espinoza who's a winger who can cross into the box really well.
