Mike Dean still going strong. Really remarkable. Been refereeing in the EPL since 2000.

Atkinson is another who is still going strong. Both will probably end up refereeing over 400 EPL games (if they haven't already).

Dean is at 453 and Atkinson at 349.

And since it was a topic of conversation last year, here at the ages of the 18 SG refs.

    32, 33, 33, 35, 36, 36, 37, 39, 39, 45, 46, 47, 47, 47, 47, 49, 50, 53

There's an interesting bifurcation where you have half of your referees over 45 and half of your referees under 40. It's interesting that outside of Clattenburg, England didn't produce a top tier referee who would now be in the prime of their career (40 to 45).

So what's the over/under number on how many pens Mike Dean gives? He always leans strict early on, every year. It's gotta happen.

These handling PKs are becoming ridiculous.
A rifled shot, trying to get out of the way, hands WAY WAY down.
Wow...good controversial start to the season.

You’re kidding right? That was a 100% a penalty. The defender even pointed to his bicep where he said he played the ball. And he wasn’t the player the ball was shot towards, he was the player the ball more slowly rebounded to.

I wasn't watching the start of the game and it took be about seven replays to see that the PK wasn't given for the guy who blocked the shot.

In your defense, Marriner also took his time to parse the call too.

Order seems to have been restored after the WC reluctance about yellow cards. In Friday’s match, a yellow was given for a pull back at the half way line to stop on attack, and in the Spurs match a yellow was given for stopping a break out even FURTHER back. Thank godness.

The first Spurs goal never would have been given without GLT. 9mm over the line.

The best thing about GLT is NO ARGUMENTS. it’s totally accepted as gospel.

Apparently the margin of error is 3.5mm -- according to NBC.

Do you mean that GLT is up to 3.5mm off from where the ball went?

I suppose that's the average error that depends on a bunch of factors. The real error would be a distribution ranging from some value below 3.5 mm to some value above 3.5 mm.

Now those values could be 2.5 to 4.5 mm or it could be 0.5 mm to 1 cm, but one this is for certain. It's more accurate than the human eye from 30 yards away.

Kavanagh with a good penalty call in the Huddersfield-Chelsea game. The only real question I have is why it wasn’t some sort of card. Big time lunge with a locked leg. One could have made a decent case for a SFP send off.

The contact was on the foot, and this, from FIFA (and UEFA, etc) is caution level at most, depending on intensity of contact, etc.

Apparently 3.5mm is the maximum value (much like what's given in polls).

If you were taking a Graham Poll 3 could be a maximum! :notworthy:

I would agree with a caution, but even at live speed the airborne nature and locked leg looked bad. Alonso (I think) saw it coming and took some evasive action. Had he been planted, that could have been really bad.

Straight red to Everton's Jagielka. Probably for SFP -- foot went past the ball and got the ankle -- but if it hadn't been SFP, would it be DOGSO?
