Ahead of today's match, there is an interesting mlssoccer.com story on San Jose's rebuilding process. There is a really intriguing paragraph in the middle of the article: Since the inimitable Goonies set the league on fire in that unforgettable 2012 season, the Earthquakes have been on a slow, steady erosion in form. They haven't been back to the postseason since. In that four-year span, San Jose went 41-52-43 and seemed to lean increasingly on Chris Wondolowski for goals amid little else. The Designated Players they signed in that span largely failed to change the narrative, and since the foundation of the club’s academy they had only signed two Homegrowns by the time Fioranelli arrived. Just to ponder that wording for a minute, did SJ seek DPs to augment Wondo's ability, or to replace Wondo? If replacement was the goal, is Wondo available? I can think of a bunch of scoreless wonders who could use a player who knows where the net is located.
I'm not sure how to feel...on one hand 2-0 Rapids! On the other hand, less reason to get rid of Pablo in the mind of the RFO.
Shit, my habit of napping during Rapids games finally caught up to me, as I missed both goals. Hopefully this isn't a Hailey' s Comet like experience and I'll see the Rapids score 2 again in my lifetime.
See, where I was going to take it was: Doyle and Williams not starting: 1-1-0, 3 GF, 1GA, 3 points. Doyle and/or Williams starting: 1-5-1, 5 GF, 11 GA, 4 points.
I think the real problem is KSE and their embrace of these money ball ideas. They aren't willing to pay for quality. They believe that rebuilding after a successful season is better than reinforcing on top of what they had. Getting rid of Pablo will only result in the next coach staying a year or two until they find a better gig. It was nice to watch the pansy team melt away at altitude with the heat. They aren't used to playing above 20 feet with temps over 65 degrees. Nice trouncing
I have absolutely nothing to bitch about this week. I don't know how I feel about that Maybe all you need is a little Colorado sun. Best weather and best match season. Coincidence? I hope not. I'm glad I did not regret going to Rapids game instead of food truck festival.
From the looks of the stands lots of people were at the food trucks -- sad because this one was a good one for new fans to see.
