Honestly I don't think it really matters who wins the vote. Having Footy Mcfooty Face or whatever it is as a legit option shows that this poll is not serious.
Indeed. They're already using San Diego FC in the renderings and such. I've been figuring that'll end up being the winner no matter how the polling plays out.

That's a pretty obscure reference. And if it's referenced in Anchorman I think most San Diegans would hate it immediately. The Burgundy jokes got old about 5 years ago. If we're going with identifying numbers I'd thing 619 San Diego would be a better one. Everyone in SD will get that reference immediately.
I think the obscurity is what is cool about it. It would take a simple explanation for those who don't know. Also I don't think it's as obscure, or widely unknown, as you assume.
Problem with it is when you use what looks like a year (which 1904 does) people think you're referencing a year. I think a better 4 digit number would be San Diego 1542. Hows that for obscure? Could even make the colors yellow and red if you get the reference.
that whole number's thing is to obscure and confusing for the general public. Round two of four is over soon, looks like one of my picks San Diego Seals, narrowly makes the top 30, but that's gonna be the end of the road for it likely. Did you people see and vote for the option to have up to 5 write in names once the voting process is further along?
They are down to the top 30 (see below), so it's 2 more weeks of the lowest 10 each week, going away. I haven't heard yet, if they will accept up to 5 vote in suggestions, along with the top 10 or not. Voting just restarted earlier today, so there aren't a ton of votes yet, still the two that have been on the top for a while are already there again. I'll list the top 3 as of right now San Diego Valor San Diego Football Club San Diego Surf Athletic Club San Diego (ACSD) Atletico San Diego Footy McFooty Face Inter San Diego Mission San Diego FC Real San Diego San Diego AFC (America's Finest City or Association Football Club) San Diego Anchors San Diego Armada San Diego Bad Hombres San Diego Bolts San Diego Brewers San Diego Chargers San Diego City FC San Diego Conquistadors San Diego Fleet San Diego Football Club (SDFC) San Diego Force San Diego Lightning San Diego Riptide San Diego Sculpin San Diego Seals San Diego Soccer Club (SDSC) San Diego Sol San Diego Strikers San Diego Surf San Diego United San Diego Valor San Diego Waves Sporting San Diego FC
Yes they have! Doesn't seem right an organization trying to use a community competition to promote itself. This is from their FB page, though they later changed it "However there is work to be done. We need all your votes in the next round."
It's totally fine for it's current purpose and the (drumroll) soccer city project @ SD's Qualcomm site in MV. No worries the team won't get that name or McFootyFace either. Maybe the Ownership Group of the potential MLS team will keep it, but I asume they will be doing a separate PLC or Ltd or some such thing just for that. Current top 5 San Diego Surf = 1356 San Diego Football Club = 825 Mission San Diego FC = 207 San Diego Armada = 156 San Diego Valor = 140
Since they won't use Surf (as it's already owned by someone else and is clearly being ballot stuffed by the youth group), looks like the current winner is what many expect it will be anyway, SDFC.
They put Footy McFooty Face and San Diego Snapdragons (the Qualcomm chip) on the ballot. They didn't exactly do a deep screening job on these names for actual usability. Like most of these contests, it's just an excuse to make people feel involved. They'll end up naming the team what the owners want it named, not who wins this contest.
So, San Diego Seals didn't crack the top 20. Too bad, still think it would be a good mascot for kids and for the grown ups supporters S.E.A.L.S themed as a nod to the Navy as well as local wildlife. Anyway the voting turned a bit dubious to say at least in the last couple of hours, suddenly thousands of votes appeared for McFooty face, whereas before Surf lead SDFC by a wide margin ahead of everybody else. Wonder if all those Footy McFooty Face voters actually bothered to read the voting info... Top 10 will get submitted to MLS, potentially even with a couple write in options (at least FS was asking about if that was something folks wanted). No chance ever MLS would approve that one. So these are the 20 names remaining Footy McFooty Face 3250 San Diego Bad Hombres 512 San Diego Surf 391 Mission San Diego FC 145 San Diego Football Club (SDFC) 144 San Diego Sol 43 San Diego Armada 42 Athletic Club San Diego (ACSD) 33 Atletico San Diego 33 San Diego Valor 21 San Diego City FC 15 San Diego AFC (America's Finest City or Association Football Club) 15 San Diego Soccer Club (SDSC) 14 San Diego Chargers 14 San Diego Brewers 12 Inter San Diego 12 San Diego Bolts 11 San Diego Sculpin 9 San Diego Riptide 8 San Diego United 5
There are literally 20 names and like 2 of them aren't appropriate. What do you mean real candidates.
