Since we now have our own sub-forum and the San Diego thread was closed, I decided to make a thread of the "best" potential names poll for a San Diego. What do you guys think?
Name : Old Mission Bay Athletic Club Nickname: Emersons Mascot: I'm sure you can figure that out. Steal the best sports name in San Diego and drop San Diego all together. That'd be cool. Games would be: New York Red Bull vs Old Mission Bay Athletic Club and/or Galaxy vs Emersons. That would look great on Sportscenter.
LOL I like those names. They'd be pretty funny for sports teams. San Diego Mountain Lions is a good one too. (im joking of course)
Surprisingly it is a pro sports team name though. The UFL football team in Sacramento is the Sacramento Mountain Lions
Why they not be able to use it then? There are a few pro teams with the same name in different sports. Not that I think San Diego should have a team called Mountain Lions lol
Because these days it would be attacked as a trademark infringement and unlike the old days they're attacked much more vigorously these days. Better to not risk it. Just ask the Cape Cod League how well that worked out for them.

San Diego (Spanish) = Saint James (English) Except that the city of San Diego is named after St. Didacus of Alcala. I'm not sure how Didacus translates to Diego, or if it further translates to James in English . . .
Actually Saint James can be also be San Jaime, San Iago, San Jacobo, Santiago... So probably not the best option to go with since it's not necessarily an English equivalent of Diego. And particularly since we all know our "San Diego" is Saint Didacus of Alcala, not Saint James. The Biblical Saint James is actually San Iago.
Not to get too off-topic, but if his name was Diego, and everyone called him Diego when he was alive, then why did someone decide to name him Didacus?
They didn't. I'm pretty sure Didacus is the latin root of Diego. Remember he was canonized 500 years ago when the church was very much latin based.
