Hello all. A few years ago, I made this thread to gauge opinions only for it to be deleted because the mod thought I was looking to offend people. Who he thought I was offending, I have no idea, he didn't say. I'm thinking the problem was the ordering of options on the poll, so this time I'll put "freedom" as the first option. I hate giving in to authority, but oh well, authority always wins, even if they're wrong sometimes. The mod actually called some of the options "alternative viewpoints", which is kinda a weird thing to say because millions shared the viewpoints listed on the poll. So let's give this another go. The original poll was posted before the Kaepernick protests, and what we've learned since then is that many whites actually did not know what millions of People Of Color felt about certain symbols. It's disappointing to know that it takes high profile happenings such as that and the whole Trump fiasco to get some whites to learn that their worldview is far from the only one out there. Very far. Cascarino's also said I should be sent to the moon for the original poll, lol, maybe he'll explain why he said that this time around. Here's an interesting tidbit about the Rick Monday incident: https://www.barstoolsports.com/baseball/on-this-date-in-sports-april-25-1976/ So it was actually for a good cause, but the media deified Monday for stopping the protesters. Not cool.
Headscarves, undershorts, curtains, pick up truck decorations. Something on a stand you can dry hump like Trump.
1. Rare marek sighting. 2. I'm pissed he beat me to the obvious response. The Mexican flag means ardido.
We should find the relevant thread in the USA section of BS and put a link for here. I have no idea how to find out what the most repped post in BS history is, but it's got a competitor now.
Well this should be a two part question: !) What does the US Flag symbolize prior to Nov. 2016? 2) What does the US Flag symbolize today? prior to 2016: Freedom, liberty and justice for all today: tRUMP and his supporters
T&T. No, thank YOU. ??? You bitches didn't even get on the plane TO Russia, and yet you're trying to rag on Mexico? FOH
It's just a friggin piece of cloth! Nowhere else in the world do people make such a big deal over their flag. Well, maybe in totalitarian states and the country that used to be known as Yugoslavia. Pretty much every single building open to the public had either a Yugo flag or a portrait of Tito or both. Must have been an effort to force national unity, but we found out a few years later how well that worked...
The poll should permit multiple choices. If it's a symbol, that means it depends on its context for its meaning. It meant one thing when hipsters and POC united to sing songs and wave the thing after Obama got elected, and Something else when someone is waving it and yelling "get out of my country" at someone he thinks might be an immigrant. So there's the first one AND white supremecy. Fly it from an aircraft carrier, there's imperialism.
Mostly, now, it means people who don't like the United States. When displayed on a car or in front of home. Don't like blacks, Hispanics (born here or not), Muslims, immigrants of most or all flavors, LBGT, and liberals of all stripes. The flag symbolizes their dislike of the people with which they share the country.
