The 9:00 PM start doesn't thrill me, but being on Halloween may be problematic for people with children of Trick or Treating age. That said, we have to win tonight for that to happen.
Are kids even still out on the modern Halloween by 9pm? Seemed to be all over by 8 when I was in Shawnee. The bulk of kids were showing up before 7. Back in my day...
For me it’s a matter of a 45 minute drive after trick or treating to get back out to the stadium for the game
...i'd still be going strong at 11pm when i was a youngster... with my shoulder hurting from carrying such a heavy bag of candy all over the place. i was just talking with my mom about this the other day and she was telling me how, back in the 50s, they'd go trick or treating for multiple days. she said this was commonplace. crazy. now it's like 2 hours while the sun is still up and that's it. lame.
Considering all the helmet and knee pad parenting of today I'd think tailgate trunk or treating followed by a playoff game could be an easy sell.
... we'd trick or treat until 4 am, by the end it was mostly breaking and entering and stealing silverware, but that was Halloween back then. The crazy old witch lady on the corner would give us apples with razor blades, and we'd have to carefully eat around the blade so that Dad would have something to shave with...
The problem is that we have all this Dom money but it seems like what we need other teams don't want to sell. Are we really going to get a strong striker, clinical finisher? Everybody needs that and I would guess having an abundance of those would be a rarity. I think we would have to get lucky with a Nemeth type. But those players have usually been given up on for a reason. Plus add in Peter's love for work rate over everything and I am pessimistic. I have no expertise in this kind of stuff so I hope I am just full of crap, and have no idea what I am talking about.
I actually thought about this explicitly today. For what do the forwards get rewarded/punished in practice? Do they get yelled at for not putting shots on frame or do they get yelled at for not hustling? I bet the latter more than the former.
I may be wrong on this, and please correct me if I am, but the one thing I never saw diminish with Gerso was work rate. He has a solid and sometimes great work rate, imo. I think Vermes gets upset by players who make a ton more cash, but only offer incremental improvement at a position. I get that. but among strikers, it's often the little differences that matter. I mean, watching Salloi, he's a flawed striker. He's a young and improving flawed striker, but he has obvious gaps, yet it appears these do not upset PV because Salloi is still young and still inexpensive.
I like the lineup, it is probably the most attack minded team we can put out there, so I give credit to Vermes for that. Now can someone please put the ball into the back of the net.
I mean it wasn't a bad half, I don't think we played bad, Houston didn't look any more threatening than we did after the first few minutes.
