Here are a couple interesting article that keep track of a few players and the roff season business. some interesting tibits aobut player salary and incentives as well. http://www.charleston.net/news/2007/sep/24/battery16762/ Here is one on Toussaint which hints that he might be coming back next season. http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article_sports?id=161207967 Also spoke with a couple players at the picnic. Both Armstong and chin were going to be playing indoor. Sounded like Amando Romero was going to go back to college (I think he said for law school) A couple were heading off to help coach HS and college while others were staying in the area.
Looks like Toussaint will be playing for TnT against El Salvador on Wed. http://www.socawarriors.net/news5.htm
I plan on going to a bunch of Chicago Storm games this season. I like the way Armstrong plays the game. I think he can be an MISL all-star this year. Once in a while I'll keep you guys updated on how he's playing this winter. Bye the way, do you guys expect Lazo back with the Battery next year? He's playing for New Jersey in the MISL this season.
Ive heard through the grape vine that Armstong has signed with the Battery with an out clause if another league offers more money (MLS or overseas) Armstorng is a great asset and expect good things from him Not sure about lazo. He did a lot of the dirty work last season but he was under a microscope for most the season as many didnt feel he was living up to what they though his role should have been, an on field leader. He just didn't look like he cared sometimes and I dont think that is Lazo at all. it was almost like his mind was somewhere else for most games. what ever it was, the coach had faith in him and he played a considerable amount of minutes when other options were available.
Thanks Mikey. We in Chicago area know Lazo very well. Many of us were disappointed when he fell out of the MLS. I thought he could find a home in Charleston. Great atmosphere, loyal fans and hey, it's Charleston. Hard to beat. Lots of talent and soccer still left in Lazo. However, if his heart isn't into it then there's nothing you can do. I'll still make my annual summer trip to the beach and come to Blackbaud for a game. You guys are great and I have a blast.
Jeremy Gold, from the College of Charleston, came to Chicago for a try-out. He should be able to do well in indoor, since he could sub in and out of games.
Armstrong gets a few quotes in the chicago paper aobut upcoming season with the Storm http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...6storm,1,2651514.story?coll=cs-fire-headlines
Apparently Armstrong is injured for the Chicago Storm. I wasn't at the game last night but someone told me his leg was in a cast. I'm going next Saturday when the Storm play New Jersey featuring Tony Meola and your Lazo Alavanja. I'll try to find out more about Armstrong.
any word on Armstrong? how'd Lazo look? Gordon chin is on FSC now with the California Cougars and the MISL. He scored there first goal of the night.
Armstrong is doing well got MISL offensive player of the week honors http://www.chicagostorm.net/news/index.php?cat=15&id=917 and the Storm just signed Ian Bennett making chicago more like Battery north! http://www.chicagostorm.net/news/index.php?cat=15&id=919 mikey
Watched Lazo with the NJ Ironmen last night. Still think he has a few more years of good soccer in him and I still think he is MLS caliber. It would be cool though if he plays for Charleston another year.
Is the Chicago Storm becoming the Charleston Battery winter training team? Latest Battery player signing by the Storm for 2008-09: http://www.chicagostorm.net/ Randi Patterson This makes it: Armstrong, Alavanja, Patterson, Bennett (did he play with Battery last year?)
Point of Order, he doesn't count as an active player anymore. Unless he joins Watto on our Sunday team. Our people are talking to his people.
Here's an article on some of your boys in Chicago: http://www.soccer-training-info.com/battery_players_play_indoor.asp
I would certainly like to make it down at some point Mikey, but I am not sure as of yet. If I do I probably won't know for a little while longer. I am pretty close to Rochester though, so I might be able to catch a Rhinos-Battery game, which are always good match-ups.
