PK Loophole

    I was asking why fuschia thought the "attacking team gets an unfair chance at the ball" if a goal kick could be played by either team as soon as the ball was kicked, not once it left the penalty area.

    First, there is no rule that requires the players to be on any particular side of the ball on a PK, that I am aware of.

    Second, I don't see how having to play the ball forward on a kickoff make it fairer to the defending team. The team kicking off always begins with complete posession regardless because of the defenders having to be outside the center circle until the ball is in play.

    Actually, everyone besides the keeper must be behind the ball on a PK.

    Law 14 specifically says that all the players except the goalkeeper must remain behind the ball and outside of the penalty area/penalty arc until the ball is in play.

    Oops, I was wrong on that one.:eek: Makes some sense I guess, so that the PK taker can't be distracted.

    Also, no one is allowed to be in an offside position at kick.
