I have used MLS Live since it began, but just a few days ago I cancelled my subscription. I just do not watch it enough anymore and I know for a fact that the Union’s total mediocrity is the major culprit in lowering my interest in enjoying the league, in general. I used to watch multiple games per week even before we had a team.
I thought the Philly Soccer Show guys made a good point about how the Union marketing dept. are just doing what they're supposed to do, even if it comes across as tone deaf. The people we really need to be concerned about being tone deaf are in the front office management--and they have certainly demonstrated evidence of that aplenty.
I emailed my ticket rep today and told him that he has the second most difficult sales job in America, right behind Sarah Sanders.
Good lord, Union social media is becoming a darker and darker place by the day.... and I can't help but consume every little bit of it.
Another day, another 2018 @MLS Season Preview on USS. Today @davisjsn looks at the @PhilaUnion and speaks with one of their newest members @iamdavidaccam. pic.twitter.com/hzkfyBQGAg— SiriusXM FC (@SiriusXMFC) February 13, 2018
ESPN acquisition for MLS streaming is complete. They will cover everything on their new ESPN+ streaming platform. Important info: "The MLS Live service was priced at $79 a year, while the new ESPN streaming product will be $5 a month, or $60 annually. In addition to the soccer games, ESPN+ subscribers will get access to thousands of other live events a year, including pro baseball, hockey and tennis, as well as college sports." "ESPN+ will debut this spring, likely after the March 3 start of the soccer season, so matches will be available for free on MLSsoccer.com until the new service is available, according to one of the people." It's extra from what I have heard. MLS Live was one of the things MLS had done well. I'm not expecting a good experience with ESPN+ Also of note is that MLS starts in 2 weeks but ESPN+ doesn't exist yet.
So I'll still be on the fence like I was with MLS Live. I'll likely cave...but it's annoying to spend money to watch the Union.
Seems like a good deal to me. Does this mean that we'll have access to each team's broadcast? Or just the home team's broadcast?
My understanding is matches will stream for free on the MLS site until ESPN+ is live. You will only get OUT of market games. So Pete should be good, but if you're looking to watch the U and geolocate here, nah.
Union games were on MLS Live locally as long as they were not the ESPN or FoxSports games (also UniMas). That is no longer the case?
The teams have been notified, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the change hasn’t been publicly announced. Fans will be able to watch about 250 out-of-market games a year, meaning they won’t be able to see their home teams. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...e-is-said-to-gain-exclusive-pro-soccer-rights
Honestly the $5/month $60/year is perfect for me as a now out-of-market fan. I can cancel in August when the playoffs are out of reach. What a bargain!
Is that not contingent upon having a cable provider? I live in Lancaster, that's not out of market for the Union.
No, ESPN + is going to be a separate service. Designed for chord cutters, and also monetizing their existing inventory of sports that they hold rights to.
I subscribed to the TV option on FiOS and would often watch other teams play. Last year I signed up for the MLS Internet offering. I used it at most two times. The whole logging in, switching input devices, etc was too much for casual soccer watching. This cord cutting is going to make watching TV a chore.
