I'm moving up to pink cow country later in the year. No way on God's green earth I will be going to the bedpan regularly, except when the Union visit.
Not many know that Harrison,NJ was the only non-New Zealand filming locale. Set designers loved it,"we didn't have to dress it at all, just CGI'd out a burned out warehouse and the PATH train, otherwise completely untouched "- Peter Jackson, probably
Ex-effing-actly. As I (IMO) so eloquently stated to a Red Bull fan a long time ago (in this galaxy), I'd rather have no (read, our) history, than RBNY's history.
Grew up in Alabama where college football was king. My NFL team was the Vikings (don't recall why now and don't care anymore), NBA was not popular, there was no hockey (nobody knew the formula for ice back then I guess) and baseball was the Braves because you could get TBS and I remember watching games with Pop (as long as wrestling or Hee-Haw was not on). This was long before they were good (think Dale Murphy days). Dad went to Bama and 2 siblings went to Auburn so I stayed out of the college football battles. I was the youngest and youth soccer was just making an appearance at the time and I gravitated to it initially as something I could be better at than my older brothers. Then I want to a local college game. Seems the school had something of a connection with Nigeria and all their players and most of the fans there that day were from west Africa. There was dancing, singing, fans yelling at the coach to put a certain player in and the coach yelling back at the fans for 10 minutes before putting the guy in and it was glorious and I was hooked. Played in school even though it was not a state sanctioned sport and played some sort of club or pick up ever since. Most places I've lived I couldn't get any TV coverage outside what was on the networks so I didn't see much soccer outside the World Cup so didn't ever side with League team. Moved to South Jersey about 10 years ago and read an article about the Sons of Ben and their effort to get a team here and joined then. The Union are the first team I've every really identified with so I think I'm stuck come hell or high water. I've maintained my season ticket seats because I don't want to lose the location but I was not dropping any other money on them for a while until I too saw some investment. Guess the good times (if they ever come) will be that much sweeter for all the suffering we put in until that day comes. See you in Chester my friends.
I remember looking out over the surrounding area, first time I went to RBA, thinking it looked like the surface of the moon. At least we have mud in our parking lots
I'd take their stupid name and two supporters shields. And mass transportation access and slow stadium site redevelopment over anything we have.
I'm not a twit (don't do Faceplant or Instaham either) but seeing news stories that MLS released some videos of MLS players as Power Rangers? Apparently the one with Kaka is cringe worthy and our dear departed Andrew Wenger makes an appearance. Any of you kids with mad techno-skills got the scoop?
It's hard to even work up the energy to be angry at the Union anymore. It's just apathy and frustration with a sense of being obligated to watch a match so you can get it over with. Mediocrity would be more palatable if they were at least fun to watch rather than just a bunch of overmatched grinders. https://www.instagram.com/p/BSCd2gigr34/
I wish BigSoccer would re-implement the negative rep function ... I'd so neg rep you to hell and back.
http://www.phillyvoice.com/what-does-it-mean-be-philadelphia-union-fan-2017/ Unpaved Lots made Kinkead's Cons list! We're doing our job men!
I like the unpaved lot. It's got character. You want a paved lot? Drive to the other side of the stadium.
Paving that lot isn't going to move the needle. It's just a thing people gripe about when they're frustrated about the team's direction in general. If you crave asphalt there are options there too.
That unpaved lot is a good metaphor of the FO and Club mentality in general. Who cares about oversight and don't worry about the small details. Been that way since the beginning. Stadium design and location, concession management, loyalty points not working, press conference name plates, traded players in marketing material, goalie acquisition. It's all part of the same disease that infects every aspect of the club. It is quite impressive. .... and yet I always show up.
I feel like way way more people are bringing up that we play in Chester all the time this year. I know that would go down significantly with a winning season, but I'm afraid we won't get that and just kind of fade into further obscurity. I wonder of how much last year wasn't baseless optimism, just desperation for something from the Philadelphia Union.
I've been noticing that too... I mean it's obvious being in the sports complex or a handful of other spots in the city limits would be better, but as far as locations outside of the city go the Chester location is probably the best you can get. It's where we are and yes, it hurts the team, but the stadium location is pretty far down the problem list. The real reason the Chester location stings is because apparently there was a spot near Sugarhouse availble, and the worst run FO in the league opted for the cheaper Chester option, but most complaints don't have that knowledge/context.
'Food trucks' come inside stadium for Union soccer games http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/the-insider/Food-trucks-come-into-stadium-for-Union-games.html
I mentioned this a couple of years ago, I don't think they can pave Lot A. That's the site of the Wade Dump Fire. Environmental remediation for a lot of superfund sites often use a plan of charcoal filtering, clay caps and gravel. Basically the rain water needs to seep in , push the bad stuff up and through the filtering. Paving would cause water to run off into the river. Plus, taking all the fluids your shitty Hyundai Elantra is leaking. So stop bitching about gravel, worry more about the fact your awesome tailgate is 20 feet over one of the original superfund sites. Boo cancer! Yay cornhole!
Don't talk about my Elantra that way. I'm at 190K and still haven't needed a repair. This shows the superfund site being much closer to the stadium (it actually is mostly paved now): http://www.brotherlygame.com/2014/1...the-wade-site-ppl-park-Philadelphia-union-epa
