I think Graham did try to buy out Sugarman at one point. Hopefully someone here knows more details.

    DO IT

2011-2012 club was on the block but no takers. Sugarman knew he was in over his head and was looking to flip.

In his mind? A savvy and patient investor. He wanted an NBA team in 07-08, it was his wise soccer pal Nick Sak who said “have I got an idea for you”. A year in and he was looking for the exits. It was pretty well known back then, see Nowaks comments re:liquidity. Jay didn’t realize/initially care about the capital calls until the recession crisis really pinched him. Even guys like Alexi made offhand comments about the club slowwalking payments, I’m sure as the former LAG gm he knew scuttlebutt. A lot of this was confirmed in 13 or 14 to me with a sit down with a former exec. MLS hadn’t popped just yet on value but expansion was picking up steam. Jay could see the real estate analog and let the rising tide pay for his team. He’s not selling til expansion peters out and the supply is down but demand still hot. He points to the academy and training building like a powder room remodel. “ Cheap talent pipeline, waterfront, great long term favorable lease, core fan base (tenants) - don’t miss this cream puff priced to move at $750m”.

All those players are there for a reason. I generally support signing players on that list, but only after they clear re-entry and can be signed for cheaper deals.

So glad we're collectively past the point of giving a shit about the reentry draft.

Joe Tansey tweeting that Ernst is still in Europe, heading to Africa tomorrow. Will probably have some news in the beginning of January.

Is it wrong that the only real excitement I get from this is that it's possible to sing his name to the Stellio Contos theme song?

Paid 500k for him.. still small potatoes, but hey, it’s something... which is def better than nothing.

The story about them grabbing him over Necaxa is great too.

Small sample but this guy has a take while apparently actually seeing him play:

Can't disagree with you. Having veterans of both the league, and the team's system (Fabinho & Creavalle), are crucial to having good depth. I hope, however, that we aren't signing them to rest on our laurels and expect them to be high-minute options.

It worries me about our D-mid position. Haris can't play it. Bedoya can play that role, but it wastes his talents. Jones maybe - who knows? Creavalle is not good enough IMHO.

I'm more disappointed by the fee than the trade. Keegan has never really developed his offensive game and is generally pretty poor with his crosses and play in the final third. Still, we need to make a big move to justify this.
