Surprised that's not going down as an own goal. The shot looked to be WAY off target.

 

Since I'm hoping Russia crashes and burns in front of Putin, I'm loving this deflection. Normally I hate goals like that, esp the failed keeper in me, but I'm loving it here.

 

How does Uruguay miss that one

 

Ever since Coutinho's goal against Costa Rica, suddenly everything became easier for CONMEBOL.

 

The 2-0 changed to an OG.

 

Uruguay playing like Uruguay should. Big teams stepping up their game now.

 

Can't believe Uruguay missed that chance to make it 3:0, so many awfully wasted chances and counters like that in this tournament...

When he has all the time and space to strike sooner, and ends up running almost straight into the keeper, shooting right into him from 3 feet away.

 

Wow can't believe the ref actually made the right call.

 

Russia is safe and already qualified. No point.

 

Russia might play Spain if the results hold...

 

Good defence & organization, not super entertaining play, superb strikers, blue shirt...Uruguay are the Italy of this World Cup, aren’t they?

 

Uruguay is playing like Uruguay today...and Suarez does not have to bite anyone...

 

Some people here overrating Russia. I will say that I was guilty of overrating Egypt but Russia got really lucky with the teams in their group.

 

All is good when they're winning,lookout if they're losing,that's when Suarez puts on his pit bull grillz.

 

Respect to Uruguay, the oldest of the Greats and, adjusted by population, the greatest footballing nation on earth.

 

People are forgetting that Russia was crap heading into the World Cup. They won the previous two games based on massive motivation and really surprised everyone. With the group virtually done Russia just isn't that motivated anymore.

 

If only Russia could play Arab teams the rest of the way they would lift up the Cup for sure.

lol looking at the replay on Suarez goals,the one thing you never do with Uruguay is to try to outfox them,they know every trick in the book,hell,they wrote the book.The Uruguay players position themselves to obstruct the goalie and body the Russian defender,who naively push them back so the hole opened up for the goal.

I dunno about over-rating Russia. This was a sucky group, to be sure, but Russia destroyed the teams they played. You gotta play the games in front of you and Russia took care of business.

 

The whole point of this game is both teams should have no injuries..

 

Appreciate that, but pound-for-pound, Uruguay does definitely pack one hell of a punch.

 

Also - Uruguay is pretty much fielding their first team, Russia rested 5 players.
