One of the matches to watch on Matchday 2. Peru's matches are always full of action and this one might be no different with Peru being desperate for points.

Peru spent a year and a half "desperate for the points" in WCq, and snatched them.

If France keeps playing as it has lately, Peru has a good chance. But France can also play as it did in Euro 2016 against Germany, or against Colombia in the first half. Then, more than what Peru can do, it goes to which France will show up on the pitch.

From a Peruvian perspective, we have better chances if Australia defeats Denmark. Then we would only need a point against France.

I’m actually hoping for the Aussies to get something out of that match.
First round left me with some sympathy for both Peru and Australia over a Denmark side that almost got a hold up.

I agree the Australia-Denmark game is more important for our interest. The game is before us so we will know what results we need..

Ya, this whole scenario reminds me of those initial three defeats in WCq to Colombia, Uruguay and Chile. Peru deserved no less than 5 points in them, but as football isn't about merits, quality or whatsoever but score sheets, we collected none and everybody (starting with Peruvian "sports" press), slandered the squad.

Then these guys know how to focus, no matter what, when against the wall. Let's see if that helps in the upcoming matches.

all signs indicate that Renato Tapia will not play due to concussion issues following his head injury in the Denmark game

Pedro Aquino would be the starter

He looks playing below his standard, I thought due to his yellow.

Big loss Aquino is not on Tapia's level. Tapia is so underrated.

Aquino is underrated. Tapia is rated pretty well these days save by a key player, his coach in Feyenoord. Aquino is better at recuperation and pressing and more focused on that side of the pitch, at a cost of aerial game, shooting and a bit of dribbling. Their passing is about equal, Aquino might be a bit better on the short pass, and a bit less creative.

You'd always start Tapia but I'm not nervous at all about Aquino having to play, I was even thinking he could be the better choice against France before the concussion news.

Que se prepare "mushasha" Cartagena porque Aquino no termina ni el primer tiempo sin tarjeta y despues va a jugar con miedo que le saquen roja

dunno....France will have space at the back and thats where Farfan would be more useful

We become too unbalanced if we go with Paolo and Farfan...neither do the tactic defensive work that Flores, Cueva and Carrillo do

on the flipside we need to score goals so...

I just hope we show up as usual and not like our match against Australia. We need to win this match and secure our spot on R16. I am more exited about knock out stage.

I like Aquino, I really do, but he lacks Tapia's defensive ability. When Tapia goes out Peru has much less control and struggles more in gaining possession. Aquino is good with the ball and moving forward, but I've seen him lost when getting back on D. Against France the defenders will have to win their battles to survive.

Gareca should be fired if he doesn't start Guerrero since the begining.

Gareca could sit Guerrero, Farfan, Carillo, Cueva, Advincula and not one rumor of him being fired would surface. Not that Peruvians wouldn't be annoyed but Gareca is god right now.

Prediction: France will win but most posters here will say Peru is a better team.
