The Mark Sherrod era in San Jose is over. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/2...uakes-announce-roster-moves-ahead-2017-season
Always rated that Sherrod man. Solid first touch, knew how to hold the ball, link up well with teammates, and a very good back to the goal target forward that as a coach I crave to have at my #9 culture. Then place speed and technical talent all around such a player in my attack.
Bring him back!! May his terror reign for us!!! I think he was just playing around there, so he could come back to Houston.... He belongs with the GOD' s like Nicolas Bendtner!
The guy could have been as good as an Alan Gordon type player. Too bad about his knee. Maybe he needs a little longer recovery due to scar tissue. Sucks for us that he got hurt and let go from the Dynamo because we had no one like him - he was a physical presence and good in the air and soft touch and good finishing.
Let's not get carried away. The mistake is we left him unprotected in the expansion draft. Before we finalized our list, Dom should have been called and we would have netted a second round pick directly instead of Orlando. Only downside would have been that we could then have another player taken in expansion draft. That being said, that's not really a problem for a team looking to flip its roster IMHO.
I don't feel too bad about it. 2nd round picks aren't worth much these days. The player Orlando took with San Jose's pick is out of MLS. Looking at the rest of the 2nd round, most if not all of those guys are out of MLS. Some more quickly than others (that was the year of our Ballo selection).
Right, it's a small mistake in the big scheme of things. But a simple mistake that indicated things to come IMHO.
Nothing is worth anything and it's just fine if this team can't use any tools and just progressively deteriorates. I swear, it's like every lazy idea about personnel got drilled in here during the loaded golden era and people haven't woken up to what is going to be needed for a team this broke to compete against better funded teams. You can't blow off college draft and do nothing HGP and not work hard in the re entry drafts and not take expansion draft risks and be better at trading for lunchpail MLS than you are at signing foreigners. We have zero personnel niches and yet are trying to compete on a shoestring. I am curious how y'all expect that to happen if none of the personnel tools are taken seriously. The players have to come from someplace. Young player minutes have actually gone down from Dom's time when it was already a potted plant mentality.
we need to be recruiting people better on paper than Bruin or Manotas, not potentially as bad as Torres. I feel bad for Sherrod but it needs to be a "show me some tape" mentality and not us signing a bunch of people hopefully. let sherrod prove himself elsewhere.
http://www.premierleagueheroes.com/ade-akinbiyi/ I thought he had retired not too long after leaving Houston, but good for him for getting jobs.

"Since retiring, Ade Akinbiyi has been working as a football consultant with focusing on talent identification...."
Raul Rodriguez chasing the money train to China, Shanghai Shenxin. Corey reporting David Horst will not be back as well (no surprise).
Horst to RSL it seems. http://www.rslsoapbox.com/2017/1/20/14342458/report-rsl-chad-barrett-david-horst-dnews
Luis Landin scoring goles for Costa Rica's Perez Zeledon. Former orange hero Craig Waibel still at RSL and talking about Donovan. Ricardo Mulrooney still head coach in U of Memphis. Former interim coach Wade Barrett is now ____ (?) . I don't know. Carlo Costly still at Olimpia, but always ready to make a move somewhere. DeRo still busy with the DeRo Foundation. It appears he's still with Toronto and has a futbol academy.
The wife and I watched this one last night and I gotta admit I didn't recognize Wade at all, but it is nice to know that he is moving on and apparently doing pretty well:
