• I recognize Chilavert as a great goalkeeper, but if I had to pick historical goalkeepers over him, I’d name Fillol from Argentina’s 1978 World Cup team. At the same time, I understand the inclusion of Chilavert because otherwise this South American team would simply be a Brazil & Argentina team.
• For South America, a few choices for bench players: Falcão, Sócrates, Zico, Romário, Batistuta, Jairzinho.
• This is a post-1950 list. Uruguay doesn’t get to participate, as a result.
